  1. Check the belts and if it is a belt failure do not try to restart the car. I had an interference Mitsubishi that did this and when I restarted it I trashed the engine to the tune of $1,500.
  2. You hear lots of testimonials on Ls400's and how far they go. I have had my 96 for many years, just gave it to my oldest son with 109K and in all those years not one wrench has hit it except belt replacement and oil changes. Replacing it with a 99 I found with 60K. Both run, as my Dad used to say, "like a sewing machine". My Mom always comments how the 96 Lex rides so much better and quieter than her 2008 Buick, which of course my father does not like to hear even though it is very true.
  3. I purchased a 99 LS400 and only received one master key with the vehicle. My local locksmith can cut a duplicate with chip and program the key so it will function. My question is how do I program the remote lock/unlock function? If anyone has the procedure that would be fantastic. These keys are not cheap! Also, I have a 96 I never received the remote fob for. My son is getting the car and wants to get the remote function working. Anyone have a source for a 96 fob?
  4. I will try to shoot some pictures this weekend and post them. It has the stock stereo so I am thinking I can just remove it and send in for reburbishment. The stereo sounds great but it is a drag now knowing which station you are on. Also, it came with only one key so I had a spare made yesterday. $100 for a non-remote key!
  5. If you are running regular guess rather than premium that can make the light come on.
  6. My 96 LS400 has a new friend to play with! I just picked up a black 99 LS400. (It got the baptism of fire as I drove it home yesterday on the crosstown between Minneapolis and St. Paul at 5:00 p.m.. I guess if it can survive that traffic it can survive anything.) My son has been asking to buy my 96 LS400 for a while, and I always said if I could find a clean 99-2000 black on black LS400 with low miles I would let him have it. This one appears really clean and well maintained, which I was able to confirm, and it only has 60K actual! The bad news is I paid more than I wanted to ($15,400) because there was another buyer literally on the phone with the dealer while I "negotiated". My only issue, you guessed it, no numbers on the radio display!
