Proud new (to me) owner of 05 ES330. The car needs tires. The local Discount Tire store recommends the YK520, which of course only they sell. I was wondering if anyone here had any long time experience with this tire. In order of importance, wet handling in wind is first, smooth ride and quiet would be second and tread life would be third. I did notice reading past posts that one member had 6000 miles on a set, hopefully someone has some longer experience to share.

Thank you for any input, what a great sight this is.

Welcome michael c B)

Based on what your looking for in an all season tire & staying with Yokohama, I would go with the V4S over the YK520. It should be a better overall performer in the wet weather, treadlife is almost identical with a quieter ride & more readily available as well.

You also might want to consider the Michelin Primacy MXV4.....it will suit what your looking for to a tee with a longer treadlife. B)

Lexusfreak, Thank you for the quick reply and welcome. I am interested to know why the Avid V4S would be quieter than the YK520? I am not married to Yokohamas, its just what the local tire shop has. They don't have the V4S and they didn't seem wild about trying to get it for me.

The Primacy MXVR is back ordered in the 215/55-17 size, bummer. I have read the favorable reports here and at tire rack.

The one other Grand Touring Tire that I have considered is the Bridgestone Touranza Serenity which I can get just about anywhere. If anyone has experience with this tire I am all ears.

The car currently has Toyo Proxes J33 on it, they handle okay but are loud and near the end. Past experience with Toyo tires has not been good so I think I will move on to something esle.

The choice between moderately high preformance tire and grand touring tire seems to be where I am. When I drive between Eugene OR and Seattle I frequently deal with side wind and rain which is my big hot button.

Thanks again for any input.

Michael,

Put the 3 tires beside each other (use Tirerack.com as well as they have a few pics of 2 of the 3 tires). You will see the Yoko V4S more aggressive tread pattern as far as wet weather performance is concerned. I personally have not had any experience with the YK520, but I do with the V4S & it's a very quiet tire....as is the Michelin. But I am aware that not only select stores carry the YK520 which I personally think is not a great thing (if they are that good, why does not most tire places carry them, why only discount tire?).

Check tirerack for the Michelin Primacy availability (they should have the V4S in stock as well). Stay clear of that Bridgestone you mentioned......it's still to new to the market & not enough feedback at this point to guage it's overall performance. ;)

carlexes330, how many miles do you have on your YK520 tires? Are they still quiet? Quiet seems to be the sore spot for the Avid V4S with Lexus owners in the survey of higher mileage users at TireRack. I never expect a tire to stay quiet for full warranty period but it would be nice if they stayed quiet for half of warranteed tread life.

thanks,

Might want to also consider the Goodyear Triple Tred as well Michael. They won't be as quiet as the Michelin's however....but right at the top of the list for wet weather performance.

Is it okay to put H rated tire on ES330? To me it seems fine, as I never drive over 80 or so, but maybe there is something else going on. I notice the Goodyear Triple Tred and Michelin Primacy MXVR are both H rated in my size, and manual for car sez use V rated.

thanks all!

You'll be just fine.....done it myself. A smidge softer sidewall, but no safety concerns at all. ;)
