I found some fluid leaking where the base of the ps pump is...they don't look like engine oil (too thin)...

what's the chance that the ps pump is leaking? if so, what is the best way to fix this?

The question you are asking can pretty much be only answered in one way.

Get some one to physically look at it.

PS fluid is red as it is tranny fluid.

Is ps fluid leak a common problem in ES300? (if so, where does it ususally start leaking?)

I tried to do a search...but it just give me feedbacks on every thread in the database...

It isn't the most common thing to happen but the leak can be anywhere from a gasket to the pump bearings and so on.

i would say if your powersteering is leaking..it's the o-ring behind the pump.

b/c high pressure lines are joined with banjo bolts on lexus..not high pressure rubber hose like most cheap cars.

I also had the same problem on my 92 es300......however when i purchased the car it just had a new high pressure hose replaced..the hose along cost about $320 at toyota...and around $25 at Auto Zone,,,,the leak continued however and now i have to replace the top hose that runs from radiator around motor to pump...i think the cost of this hose is about 120toyota and 65 from other parts store. Hope this helps

Thanks. Yes, I think my upper hose is leaking (very small leak...) as well....I will look into it more...

This lexus is like my 6th car....it only gets driven like 300 mile /yr :) I may not even bother to fix it if the fluid never gets down to the floor...
