I have a 1999 RX300. The clock, fuel info (mph, mpg, etc), and the temp reset every time I restart my car. Someone suggested the battery might be bad. Silly question, if the battery is bad, why does the car start and everything else work (windows, ac, radio, etc.)? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

How old is your battery?

While cranking the engine the battery voltage can drop below the threshold of the electronics and cost them to see a dead battery for a moment and that's all it takes for them to reset.

Hope this helps.

Karl K nailed it, and for some reason the RX just has one of those strange quircks about the clock resetting....Many of us have been there and the Battery is the fix....Get one from Costco or Walmart your pick and you will be happy afterwards...

I have the same problem with a 1999 RX300. Battery seems strong and fine. I had had a dead battery about three years back and the display showed no problems. Lexus dealer says the problem is probably a leaky capacitor - cannot be changed/repaired single - needs an entire new display because all electronics are integrated. Does anyone know how much a display costs (new or used - how to get one?) and how I could r&R it myself?

Thanks much - pauljcl

YOu could probably get one on Ebay thru the recyclers...And it only takes about fifteen minutes to change. However your battery may be defunct.

Thank you, Lenore. Do you know where can I get instructions on how to change it? - Before that, I'll have the battery checked under load. I will write and advise ....

Tks again.

To Lenore and all who have posted similar advice on various posts --- Yes, the problem is not the display, but the battery. Thanks all for saving me the $ and effort to get and change the display. pauljcl
