Has anyone purchased the dealer installed K40 Radar kit on their IS? Can you tell us if it works well or more of an annoyance?

Also,

What is dealer cost on those things...they are asking for like $895 for front and $1275 for front and rear.

If it were me I would, and have purchased a standalone detector. Check out this forum it will answer all of you questions, www.radardetector.net.

I think the general standard for Radar detectors goes between Bel/Escort vs. Valentine One.

Having used both extensively (and I currently own and use the Passport 8500) I think the Valentine is *probably* the best detector available, but ultimately my firm belief is they are all USELESS as against Laser guns. For that, you'll need to get into other more expensive equipment.

I just took an 11 hour road trip through NJ and NY. Most of my time was spent on I-87. Got "radared" 6 times and "lasered" 4 times. 0 speeding tickets. Not beause of my detector, but because I would take my IS350 over 75. lol

The K40 is a decent detector but I'd probably go for the new Passport 9500 which offers GPS to cancel out false signals. Don't do it with the dealer as you'll save money buying it on your own.

I have K40 installed in my IS300 from dealer. Fortunately, they gave me as free gift to buy the car. No matter how expensive it is, I think it worth. It is very sensitive to tell me where is the enemy. I also recomment to install the laser disfuion since more police using laser gun. It has saved me many many times. 3 tickets and increased premium can offset the cost you paid. I can drive at 100 mile per hour and worry free everywhere.
