ED.
What kind of GPS was in the older LS models? I thought it was a hard drive but someone on my BMW board said those came later on..? I didnt think it was CD based like my 740 has.
sonyman
The GPS in the 1998-2000 LS400 uses a hard drive in the trunk.
ED.
So that was like the current DVD based systems correct. Where the whole country was loaded on and you didnt need to switch out CDs. How do you update to newer versions though? Do you have to have it done by the dealer? Do the current Lexus models use DVD now. I have never seen a HD based version but would be interesting too. sonyman
In order to update the navigation software it is necessary to purchase a new hard drive. I'm not sure what the newer systems use.
ED.
Wow! And I thought those $125 2007.0 Navtech CD's were expensive. The DVD for the Mark 4's are really pricey though compared to that. I have CD in my Mark 3 and Ive driven in a car with DVD based and its clearer but the $$ involed in the upgrade is a lot. Cool thanks for the info! tonystewart
A new DVD from Toyota is $230-$250 a year, and do it yourself install is free. I think it is cheaper than buying a hard drive every year and paying for an install. My two cents
