0mar0mar Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Hey i have a '94 Lexus ES300 with 190k miles. When I step on the brakes, it feels stiff. The rear brake lights don't turn on either. This means I can't shift out of park I heard it has something to do with the fuse box or something? Or maybe because I have the 'check engine' light on, telling me to change the O2 sensors. Either way, has anyone ever had this problem, or knows how to fix it? OMAR :)
amf1932 Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Check that you don't have a vacuum leak. The fact that you have a hard feeling when depressing the brake pedal could cause this problem due to low vacuum.
Black03ES300 Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 I had the same problem in an older car, turns out that both brake light burnt out within a couple days of each other. Couldn't shift out of park because the solonoid is wired in series with the brake light bulbs, when the bulbs burn out they "open" the circuit. Also, check the switch. It's a real simple switch that snaps into place. This and the wire connection can easily be kick off with a wandering foot... Joe
