My '93 LS400 has an annoying little problem in hot weather.

After driving it for a while, the steering 'moans' when I turn at stop

or low speed. There's no leak and it functions fine, but it is an

annoying sound.

It's been doing it since I bought the car 2 1/2 years ago and hasn't

gotten any worse. (But no better, either).

I searched the forum under 'steering noise', but didn't find any related

posts. Of course, I may have entered the search words wrong....

Well, maybe your pump is just a little tired. Flush and fill the pump to proper level. Make sure there is no air in the system. With the car running loosen the cap a little while cycling the steering the retighten again. You could also clean the rack solenoid screen. If nothing else works you could buy a new pump or rebuild the old one. www.lexls.com has a tutorial on most of the subjects.

I actually have this exact same problem right now, but I haven't flushed the fluid or cleaned the filter yet. Did you manage to stop the noise, Paul?

Not yet, car's in the shop awaiting sun roof hardware.

Hope to get it back today, it's my only vehicle with AC,

temp in mid-90's, heat index over 100....

Hah! I was in Dallas last week, and the thermometer in my SC read 112 degrees. I really need some tint on those windows...

You have had the car for 2 years and the pump is new and the noise has not changed?>

You need new fluid. Have you personally changed the fluid or the pump since you owned it?

You may have power steering fluid instead of transmission as it is supposed to have.
