homemechanic Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Please suggest how to fix a rim (wheel) leak. Couple months ago my tire had a nail in it. Pulled and patched. A week later, it started to leak air. The guy at Costco installed a new valved, but that didn't help. I went to another Costco and this technician was more experience. He brushed the rust off and beaded the rim with a compound before putting the tire back on. That was good for several months. Now it starts to leak air again. Using soap and water, I detected the leak where the tire beads into the rim. Any suggestions on how to fix this leak? Had anyone tried installing an inner tube rather than buying a new rim (wheel)? I see Kragen sells these Victor/Monkey Grip inner tubes for tires. I know bicycles use inner tubes, but don't know if this would be beneficial for car tires. Thanks a lot! grnsc40095 Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 homemechanic, The leak might be from a bent rim lip? If yes the question is it worth the cost of repairing, here is a link that may help with your decision. Another problem is pinholes in the aluminum that make air leak from the tires. This process requires dismounting the tire from the rim and sealing the pinholes. http://automedia.com/Aluminum_Wheel_Repair/ccr20021201aw/1 http://www.thecarconnection.com/Enthusiast...A9164.html?pg=1
