Stuck In Park

I came out of work last night and was stuck there for about two hours because I couldn't get my car out of park. My brake lights are coming on when I push the brakes. I know about the release switch to get it home. Any ideas on how I can fix this? It has done this once before but I let the car sit for a few days and it worked fine.

the parking pall lock on the tranny selector is sticking , you need to clean the solenoid under the shifter
