Installation Of Door Speakers And Receiver

RX99CBG

Recommended Posts

I plan on purchasing an alpine cda-9856 single din receiver, however upon talking to the specialists at car toys and a couple other stores, they told me I may need an amp rewire, which will cost me an extra 40 bucks. Some have told me that I could install this deck myself unless I needed an amp rewire (that sounds a little too complex for me). Has anyone attempted to uninstall the stock receiver (lexus premium system) and successfully installed a single din deck similar to the one I'm talking about? Also, can anyone tell what exactly an amp rewire is? Also, anyone who has a 99 rx300 with installed after market speakers, how did you go about dealing with the installation? (did you buy an adapter?)

When I first bought my 99RX I was planning on redoing the stereo, but after I got a good look at it, forget it... I don't know how to get a decent single DIN head unit in there, plus the controls bleed up into the display screen; the system is well integrated. The 'amp rewire' is to bypass the factory amplifier (which is pretty common on factory premium stereos). Luckily, I found these stereos sound quite good for stock, so I'm leaving mine.

I wouldn't recommend trying to upgrade the head unit. If you want to really build a system, then you'll probably want to keep the factory head unit, by pass the amp, run your own amps and upgrade the speakers. Or, you can install a separate single DIN head unit somewhere else and bypass the factory system, but that's not for me.

These vehicles are pretty proprietary on their head units, and they are well integrated. Trying to change out to an aftermarket unit would be a trick, but I'm sure it can be done with the right experience and tools.... but it's not simple.

Could anyone supply a link to instructions on how to take the radio out? I want to thoroughly clean the cassette deck and try to improve the AM section's frequency response. Having an actual schematic of the radio would be wonderful, but I wouldn't have any idea where to find one.

Funny how easy it is to obtain schematics, etc. for every kind of electronic gear except modern day car radios!!

BTW, mine is an '01
