Temperature Control Panel Dark

Recommended Posts

The temperature control panel on my 1993 LS400 is totally dark in the dark (except for those green lights that indicate what's on). Is this intentional, or am I missing a backlight bulb or something?

There are 7 small bulbs easily accessible once you remove the control unit.

3 provide LCD backlighting and 4 provide button backlighting for ALL the buttons.

hit the back button on your browser, back to the topics. look at the top of the list, you should see 4 or 5 "pinned" topics. These are the most talked about topics. the display light issue is by far one of the most common issues. check out that thread and you should be good to go.

Thanks, I've done that now. Mine's a backlight problem. Ther LCDs are fine.

Are the bulbs easily obtainable?

Any Lexus dealer should have them.

Alternatively, you can order blue, red, or amber LEDs to replace these--easy to replace the button backlighting as well while you're in there if you want. I used the "T 1.5 instrument" LEDs from superbrightleds.com

Just make sure to keep the rubber blue covers from your old bulbs from the 3 that are used for the LCD display backlighting and transfer these to your new bulbs--these prevent bright spots.
