My friend and I used the Meguiars 3 step system on our cars. Me on my dark green GS300 and him on his black ES300. What we noticed when we were done was that the swirl marks were still there, and that's why we used the system in the first place. Should this whole system not have removed at least some of these ugly marks?

No, its not nearly abrasive enough. You're probably not going to be able to REMOVE the swirl marks with anything by hand. You can use a product like a glaze to fill them in, but within a wash or two they'll be back. They're scratches in the paint, the only way to remove them is to remove paint around them to level the surface off.

In order to remove them you're going to need an abrasive, like a Swirl Mark Remover or something even stronger possibly, an orbital polisher with a cutting pad or a rotary polisher possibly. Difficult to do by hand, not impossible, but difficult.

Think about it this way, there's reasons people pay professional detailers. If the "3 step system" just wiped stuff like that out...

i agree you probably have some deeper swirl marks that need a machenie to take them out.but just out of curiousity what kind of towels did you use to apply the 3 step?

i use the meguiers #2 glaze and sealent swirl remover and #3 pure carnuba wax and i dont see one single swirl on my car and i have black.is that what your using?i also use micro fiber towels or wool to take off the #2 and #3.if your using a ruffer towel that will leave swirl marks as well.

heres a pic of my paint a couple days after using the meguiers.

acually to be exact that pic was taken about 5 days after i used the 3 step.up close there still is no swirl marks.i would say it lasts about 2 to 3 weeks before it dulls a little but then again my paint is in very good shape so im guessing you would need the macheine to take car of yours.

The #2 Sealant and Glaze is a good product, but it wont remove swirl marks, just fills them in.
