I have a 95 sc300 and like alot of other people with them I have problems with my cd player skipping. even if i hit a little PEBBLE in the road...and its getting worse. I wanted to have a amp and sub put in but i have a feeling i should wait to have that fixed first but after reading you guys on here and also what the lexus dealership said itll be around 500 dollars. I dont know what to do...anyone have a sub and amp in their lexus? that also has the problem like me? I am wondering if it will make it worse and also when i have the cd player on and i turn the car off, when i turn it back on the cd payer will not play...i have to switch it to radio and then back...also sometimes i have to push the cd button 3 times before it switches back. any suggestions?

How much you want for it all?

heres price on parts, if you want all of it you can email me for a greatly reduced price for an entire package

cd changer = 150$

head unit = 100$

front speakers = 50$

rear speakers = 50$

amp = 300$

sub = 50$

speakers i must sell in pairs i must add

all prices are taken from ebay and lowered a bit, that is if you can even find that part on there, the only thing that u ever really find is the amp ocassionally

and they all worked amazing right before i took them out, i only took out to go all aftermarket bc i already had the equipment from my previous car so i could get an ipod adapter hooked up

let me know either on here or by email

SkidsiXX22@aim.com

email is crappy, if i dont respond within at most a day its bc i didn't get it

thanks,

ok so the amp...do i already have a stock amp in the car? if so, would i need a new one? i am guessing the sc3 and 400 have diff size subs right my boyfriend has a sc4 and his has way more base and pounds harder and mines 95 his is 92 so i am figuring i must have a 8 maybe and he has 10? i dont know im just guessing around that. So i know that i need something new back there whether it be the changer or the unit...i dont know how to tell...also i just want more power to the system so i am wanting to upgrade.....all the things you have are the factory right? so the only way they would make mine sound better is if mine was worn out or busted right? and i know they arent blown..

yea exactly, this is a replacement if yours are broken

the catch on these cars is this...

if you change one piece of the stock system it all has to go, the stock nakamichi amp will not run with any aftermarket parts, so if you get new speakers nothing in the system will work

you're either gonna have to be spending 1000$ plus on an aftermarket system or replacing your broken ones with stock systems.

Nakamichi's are really good systems, i made the mistake of replacing it so early, unless you are getting a very very nice aftermarket system the stock will suffice you unless you want to spend about 600$ on custom installs and 1000$ or more on parts depending on what you get just so you get cool features like ipod adaptation features

i couldnt see why you cant install a 10" instead of an 8" if thats what you think you have, theres not less space on a sc300 then a sc400 so i imagine you could do it. Buy these if you want to get excellent condition stock pieces, otherwise if you want aftermarket be prepared to make a very large investment

let me know,

and yes you already have a stock amp, these are simply replacements for broken pieces of ur system

ok so say i wanted to go out and purchase a kenwood or alpine subwoofer and amp...that would work right if i hooked it up in my car? because my mian prob was that i didnt want to go out and purchase a nice 10" sub and a 1200 watt amp and then the cd player skip alot so i just went and bought a cd cleaner thing that you run in your cd player and hope that will help...

Posted

hopefully it will solve the problem and that will be the end of it for you

but if you buy that amp and the subwoofer, you're gonna have to buy a new aftermarket head unit, front speakers, and rear speakers

and a 4 channel amp and mono amp for the sub if you want to do it right, but u can bridge it if not

if the cleaning doesnt work ur options are buying parts to fix the stock or buying all new aftermarket

Amanda,

I'm a little confused in your thought processes...you say that your CD player is skipping, then you jump into replacing the sub and amp. If they are working, leave 'em alone unless you plan on going all out.

As far as amps go, it depends on what system you have, Pinoeer Nakamichi or straight stock. Go ahead and pull the cover under your changer out and you'll excatly what you have amp-wise. Same goes for the subwoofer...pull the cover off the back of your trunk (just clips in) and you can see what size amp you have. You can't replace them that route, you have to pull the back seats out (not a big deal that we can cover when you get to that point).

My Man ChaseCroft is right, if you mess with any part of the system it won't work unless its replaced with a stock component. I had the same skipping problem...drove me freakin' nuts!!!...so I'm going with the pricey way with an all new Alpine system. Unless you want to go that route, you should buy stock pieces. I'm not so sure what to do with the CD problem. Mine does it, but if Chase's doesn't, give it a shot.

As far as the sub goes, there are some databases that show them with 10" and some with 8". If it is a Nakamichi, then its probably a 10", not sure about Pioneers, but all else must be 8". The size isn't the problem, its having one that works. You can get an ohm-meter, or just swing by a Best Buy and ask those guys to test your rear speakers (4ohms) and sub (can't remember) to see if they're working.

If you want any aftermarket components I HIGHLY recommend www.OnlineStereo.com! I bought my new front and rear speakers, as well as my sub, sub amp and system amp. The best prices I've seen anywhere, fast and efficient.

But, to make this long story a hair longer...

1. If you retain ANY stock components, stick with new/used stock componensts in a one for one swap

2. Otherwise build a completely new system.

Chase is right on the price as well, when its all said and done, installation for my system will be $600..it'll be awesome though.

instillation on my system was 600$ as well, theres a lot of custom work with sc 400's bc they aren't meant for aftermarket systems, custom cutting of speakers wells and custom dash kits for the head unit

but exactly what go dawg said is correct

go to best buy and they will check it out for free on what exactly is wrong, once you find out that much; the decision is up to you if you want to replace it all and go aftermarket which will be somewhere between 700-2000$ depending on what kinda stuff ur getting not including installs

if it turns out there are specific problems with pieces of ur system i will sell them to you

ok i bought one of those cd cleaner things thing that you run in you changer and it cleans the lens....and it eliminated most of the skipping but i am not sure if yall understand what i mean by amp and subwoofer...i am not replacing any of the factory parts especially now that i dont have as much skipping...i am wanting to ADD a amp and sub to my car.......i have a 12" sub and a amp to go in the trunk.......i am going to take it to an audio store around where i live and get them to run the wires then i am going to pretty much plug and play the amp and sub....they are both rockford fosgate and they will sound great but the only thing is the sub came with a tiny tiny box and i am wanting a bigger one...i saw on ebay the one that goes in the trunk and is actually a custom box 4 lexus but i guess it is not avail anymore...please let me know if anyone has any ideas....

that should work if you have an aftermarket head unit that you somehow rigged to work with the stock amp, otherwise theres no way that amp and sub are gonna work with your stock head unit

could you give me a reason why though.....they just ran wires through my car up to the stock head unit and ran it back to the back of my car through my trunk and i have the amp and sub hooked up....why did you think it wouldnt work...

every single person i have talked to who does car audio for a living tells me that the nakamichi amp will not run with after market parts

its pretty old technology too, 1991-99

they didnt design stock head units too probably even have ports for two amps? especially one being stock and one being aftermarket

so are u saying u have the fosgate amp and the nakamichi plugged into the stock unit and ur aftermarket sub and stock speakers are all working fine?

I bot a 1" wide x 1/2" thick roll of foam rubber weather stripping at Walmart, unscrewed the cd player from the bracket, cut the weather striping into 1" x 1" squares & poked a hole thru the center (for the screw), put the weather stripping in between the cd player & the bracket at each screw point & reattached. There is one part of the bracket where I used a 3" x 1" piece - you'll know the piece when you see it. Now my cd player skips only when I hit really big stuff & not on every single little pebble on the road as it did before.

I stuck one of those 400 watt mini motorcycle power amps from eBay for $30.00 (about the size of two regular cig packs stacked on top of each other) in between the subwoofer power amp & the subwoofer (stock pioneer system). too much power for the stock subwoofer. Replaced it with a Pioneer 600 watt subwoofer - still too much power. I am going to get on of those 1100 watt pioneer subwoofers with a 3" mounting depth next ( barely no room for the 600 watt sub because of the gas tank).
