Blackstarr777 Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Anyone ever had there engine valves adjusted if so how much because I think mine need to be adjusted.
jzz30 Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 i tried but upon inspection at 120k miles or so, the clearances were within spec so that all ended.
monarch Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 The valve clearances on some valves of the early 1990's V8 sometimes get out of adjustment. Overly loose valves will create a ticking noise in the engine, but the engine may still idle rock solid smooth. Overly tight valves may creat some engine vibration at idle. Engine power and fuel economy can be off 10% or more when several valves are substantially out of adjustment. Driving along time with valves that tick loundly can cause permanent mechanical impact damage to the affected valve lifters. Damaged lifters can be replaced, but the procedure requires camshaft removal.
pimp92sc400 Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 i have a soft ticking comeing from my engine. i bet i need a valves adjustment. does anybody knows the price.
jzz30 Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 if its a soft ticking most likely its your injectors making noise.
pimp92sc400 Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 jzz30 do you think injector cleaner in the gas will help, if so what do you recommend, i have always used lucas.
mehullica Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 If you have a pre 1998 V8, with over 120,000 I can almost bet money they a few valves are out of adjustment. I've adjusted every V8 that i've ever had the valve covers off of. Out in CA, it's about $600 to do the job.
jzz30 Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 i dont know if any cleaner will quite down injectors. if its really noisy then i would worry but if its soft like you say then its normal
pimp92sc400 Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 well the only time i hear it is when i'm in a drive through. when i'm right by the wall. then i can notice the ticking.
