I can smell gas sometimes outside of the my 96 LS400 when I start it. What can cause this? Can a bad charcoal canister cause it? is this a common problem?

The car has 54,000 miles on it.

Thanks,

Chris

I think its the cold start injector that might be the source of the petrol smell as mine seems to be the same on a 90 ls. Start up a new car and the smell is there and goes away after a few minutes running. The cold start injector pumps a extra amount of petrol in during the start up period and then reverts back to the normal injectors.

Mines does that do too sometimes at the first start-up of the day; especially when it has not been started in two days or so.
