Air Force Rascal Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Hi, just purchased 04 SC 430. my first V8. what gas to use? Hearing alot of radio commentary that 87 is OK. is that true for my lexus? I would only use 91 or higher..for this car...I think it says that inside the gas filler door doesn't it..? Good Luck
jzz30 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 honestly if your trying to save like 3-4 bucks cheaping out on 87 octane buy a different car!!!!!!!!!!! too many people ask the same question!!! the answer is NO!!
TexasComputerMan Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I have a 1992 SC400 and my owner's manual says to use 91 octane. Here in N. Texas, most gas stations sell 93 octane. I have a habit of always filling up when my tank is 1/2 empty/full. Just a habit I developed years ago. Any way, I alternate putting in 93 octane or 89 octane. Since this is a blend, I am always running 91 octane. I have been doing this for a year and it is working well.
jzz30 Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 by theory its actually better to use higher octane fuel with older cars becasue of the carbon build up on the pistons and combustion chamber.
