hi all,

i had posted a few days ago to ask abt help abt my car which was all-of-a-sudden opearting on 50% power and giving major vibrations.

its a lexus sc 400 1994, which i recently took to a local mechanic for a timing belt change.

a week later i developed these problems and i take it to a luxury car specialist mechanic.

we stood there and dissambled the top assembly of the timing belt, and he showed me its various parts, while it was still connected.

it turns out that IT IS STILL THE SAME OLD TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP in there !!!! the lettering on the timing belt is very faded and its an original toyota belt. why shud a local mech. be having a genuine toyota timing.belt ?

the crook of a mechanic prob. saw that its still good for 20Kmiles and figured it'd last a yrs warranty. but he must not have put it back properly, becoz the timing 'jumped' last week and gave me those problems mentioned above.

i hope there is no damage to me engine. i am going to him today and asking for money back + compensation, or i am going to the police to file a case in small claims court, and to the better business bureau.

i wanted to ask if anyone has had prior experience with the two? i mean , i cant afford expensive lawyers and dont want to get into timeconsuming complicated legal affairs.

i have heard the better business bureau is quite helpful, and since i will have a statement with my new mechanic that the belt was never changed, i think i have a strong case. we are taking photographs and are not touching the belt till we speak to the police/bureau.

any advise/suggestions?

thanx again and sorry for the looooong post.

godddamn crooked mechanics..

When you have work done on your car always ask for the old parts. And ask to see the actual work being done if it is within your schedule. ;)
