Antenna "grinder" Needs Fix

O.K. Can someone tell me in nice, clear details what I have to do to get this #@$&!! power anntena to stop grinding every time I turn on the radio? It's a '95 ES300. Does it for the first 15 seconds or so. Mast goes up & down just fine, but the noise is awful. I seem to recall some mention of a $30 fix. And, no, I don't want to cut the wires and leave it up. Anyone?

replace the antenna stalk. $30 is about right.

ES 300 mast has a 2 position mast to help frequency reception

Thanks! I know others have covered this topic, but you helped me find a great deal on a new mast at eBay ($19.95) http://motors.search.ebay.com/ES-300-ANTEN...ST_W0QQfromZR40. With the detailed instructions I should be able to do this on a warm afternoon in the near future. No more grinding!
