cjbdvm04 Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Supposedly, by retarding the exhaust cam by about 5 degrees, an 8hp gain may be realized. Does any one know if this is true or just bogus. And, if it is true, is there any chance that the bolts on these adjustable gears could loosen and then the exhaust timing would slip to fully-retarded (no pun intended) or fully-advanced and totally f-up the engine's top end?
SKperformance Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 if a cam gear only has 3 bolts like AEM's old style then do not get them. 5 or more bolts should hold the cam gear tightly. Cam gears have been used for years to increase power by adjusting valve timing not duration.
SilverStik Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 True. I believe the HKS is 5 bolt. And if adjusted correctly, you can gain 5-8rwhp.
cjbdvm04 Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 Any one know if they are tough to install?
SKperformance Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 It is not tough to install but i would leave the shade tree with the day off for this one. You need a special tool to keep the teeth locked to loosen the cam bolts. Also should make sure everything is marked to ensure timing is set.
