johnfw
I want to put PIAA fog lights in my sc 430--how do I get at the fog light bulbs? Thanks
AWJ
Hey Johnfw - welcome to the club. You will probably have to remove the splash gaurd unerneath the car. Look for a couple of bolts. Usually 10mm. Take the covers off or get them loose enough to get at the backside of the front bumper about where those foglights are. Might need a flashlight. Then you should be able to have access to your lights from the backside like that.
SPORTcoupe300
I just changed one of my foglights on a SC300 and I'll have to tell you that it was quite a piece of work. I had to remove about a dozen of those 10mm screws just to pry the splash guard far away enough to stick one hand in. Then there's that really funky looking paperclip type thing that holds the actual bulb. In my car, the bulb only has one wire to attach. So I guess it gets the ground from the housing. Therefore, it must be importand to get the bulb in correctly, otherwise you're going to keep loosing ground for a fraction of a second and the bulb's gonna burn again. My advice is take your time and memorize exactly how the metal clip sits before you take it off. Good Luck!
grnsc40095
Johnfw, I just upgraded my foglights, on my SC400 2 months ago. Once you get the splashguard down the foglight will be enclosed, with a circular plastic cap. I believe you turn it counter clock-wise to open the casing. This will give you access to the bulb and socket. My problems began here, trying to disconnect the wire from the socket. The foglight wire fits snug into the socket. I had to wiggle and tug, until I jarred it loose. NOTE *disconnect the wire from the socket before you open the clasp. This keeps the bulb in place and out of your way. To open the clasp, I believe you push down and it will unfasten. Hopefully it's the same for your SC430? Good Luck!
johnfw
:o thanks for the advice--- think that I may just Lexus change my fog lamps if it is going to be that difficult!!
SPORTcoupe300
Hehe. I guess we made it sound worse than it actually is. It is easily doable with a bit of patience. The dealer is going to charge you and you won't have the "do-it-yourself" satisfaction. I say try it yourself, and if you really do get stuck and give up, than you know you can always rely on your trustworthy dealer. =)
