Suction-cups Damage Gs300 Windshield?

I have read some reviews that a few auto manufacturers (ie. Porsche) have a soft anti-lacerative coating that can be damaged by the suction cups. I wonder if that's the same case with GS300's (2002). Any idea? Where would you recommend to install this device? I am not a speeder in general, but don't want to take a chance either, escpecially for night driving.

i haven't heard anything like that. i've also had a radar (passport escort as well) in all 3 of my cars and haven't seen any damage except for the suction-cup smudges that it leaves.

not sure if i'm hurting that part of the glass but how often do you look through the glass where the radar is at anyways?

Personally, I have never encountered or heard of this type of windshield treatment. Our shop has cleaned thousands of windshields, sometimes necessitating the use of razor blade scrapers and steel wool, and never did we encounter any such thing.

If a windshield were to have a coating that was so easily damaged, chances are that windshield would not pass US automotive safety regulations.

Thx guys for the inputs. I received the radar detector today. I went ahead and installed the device on the windshield regardless what it says on the maunal:

"CAUTION! A few vehicles (including some Porches) have windshields with a soft anti-lacerative coating on the inside surface. Use of suction cups will permanently mar this coating. Consult your dealership or the vehicle owner's manual to determine if your windshield has this coating."
