air12290 Posted July 25, 2005 Share Posted July 25, 2005 Recap: My 90 LS 400 is idling high.. I went on www.lexls and read a tutorial about changing the Throttle Position Sensor.. at the end of the tutorial, he pointed out that when putting the sensor on, if you turn it a bit clockwise, it speeds up the idle, and turning it counterclockwise will lower the idle. Well, mine was turned up all the way.. so I loosened the screws and moved it counter clockwise and voila, the idle went back down to normal. Wonderful. However, immediately, the check engine light came on.. and when I drove it, I found out that is not a good light to have on.. hesitating and slight jerking in the engine at 50 mph.. got out, and turned the TPS back to the way it was.. everything back to normal. My question.. did the previous owners mechanic turn it up like that because the 02 sensors needed to be replaced? and this is a quick fix to fooling them? thanks Dave Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

ED. Posted July 26, 2005 Share Posted July 26, 2005 If he did that is a good way to ruin your cats. I would call the dealer about the TPS and see what they say. Maybe the car has to be reprogramed to accept the new idle and fuel consumption? But usually the the computer should compensate. I dont know.
