jayhawk1
My AC is not cooling as expected. What should the temperature be at the vent? Or, rather, maybe it would be better to ask what is considered to be the normal temperature range when compared to the ambient temperature? Thanks and have a great day. Lexusfreak
usually 20-30 degrees below the outside temperature. ← I'll agree with that. Jay, is your ES still under factory warranty or was an extended warranty purchased for the car? B) You might want to have the dealer look at your concerns. jayhawk1
I just tried checking the temperature at the vent and failed to get a reading that passed a believability test. I couldn't get the termperature under 80F using a regular household thermometer. I don't have bulb type thermometer that I can put in the vent. I took the car to the dealership (under warranty) and they said there wasn't a problem. I guess it is hard to cool a car when the outside temperature reading is 111 as it was last week. Today it is only a balmy 94. I have noticed that it puts out cooler air when it is on max cool. I didn't even know max cool was available. I better read the manual again! Thanks to those who responded.
monarch
Walmart carries a digital thermometer with a wire sensor you can stick inside the center dash vent. When the system is set for maximum cooling and to recirculate interior air, the temperature of the air coming out of the center dash vent should be 37-44 degrees F. even on a 110 degree day. This 37-44 degree rule has been true of all Toyotas and Lexus's made since the late 1970's. The early 70's Toyotas allowed the car owner to manually adjust the temperature of air coming out of the dash vent to only 20-30 degrees F !!! Yep, below freezing !! jayhawk1
That is exactly the type of advice that I was seeking. Thank you very much.
