jgilliam1
I had this code ( p0446) given to me from autozone, but the clerk told me to take my car to my mechanic, but I don't have a regular mechanic. First I would like to know if anyone had this problem code; and what did they do about it. As for now the check engine light is off , but has gone off and on for the second time. The code relates to the evaporative emissions control system. My gas tank cap is tight as wel as my dipstick tube. The car is a 2000 lexus gs300. cruznroadking
Check the evap canistor for leaks & the hoses going to it. Be sure the hoses are secure.
cruznroadking
Even if the gas cap is tight the gasket can get deformed & leak over time. Replace gas cap if needed. A licensed smog station should be able to test the cap for leakage.
Simple
My 2001 GS has the same problem. It has been in the shop 3 times over the last two weeks. Same Evap code problem. My mechanic did a smoke check to see if there is a leak anywhere, no leak. He changed some valve in the gas tank , but an evap code keepd tripping the check engine light. And yes, i put the cap on the tank tightly. Anyone have any clue as to what the problem could be?
