Faq For Newbie On Hid/non Hid Lights

Recommended Posts

Not sure I understand. HID was an option and not standard on 98 GS300s. Are you saying your OEM HID went out? Do you know if it is just bulbs or are the ballasts out? Replacement HID bulbs should definitely not be $340.

My driver's side HID went slowly out over a period of a couple of nights... new one is 340 bucks or so from shop. others cheaper. was HID on option?

I've got  a '98 GS 300

Yeah, It's an OEM HID as far as I can tell.

I don't know how to tell if it's the bulb or the ballast... The service shop (far away from an authorized Lexus dealer) thinks it's the bulb, not the "transformer." =-- so he says.

Like SK said, swap the bulbs. One side is bad but the other is still good. If you swap the bulbs and the bulb lights, then the ballast is bad. If the bulb does not light, well that is fairly obvious. ;) :)
