new_owner Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 My Mechanic says that we need to replace the whole Hub Assembly, Right Front Wheel Bearing on 91 LS400 114K miles. I notice some vibration if you sit in the paassenger sit....but other than the vibration..it drives Ok. He says its about 3 hr job if I can find the parts on internet. Any ideas??
VGR Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 The front wheel bearings are sealed and don't need periodic greasing. Normally they last over 300,000 miles. And normally if they go bad there will be a deep growl when cornering at moderate speeds of say 30 MPH. I'd get a second opinion before authorizing anyone to replace the bearings
pachocco1 Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 The bearing and other related components can be replaced. The hub would need to be damaged in order to require replacement. It holds the bearing and is a very strong load carrying part. I strongly doubt it needs to be replaced. Attached is from the repair manual for your reading. frontaxl.pdf
new_owner Posted February 14, 2005 Author Posted February 14, 2005 Thanks Guys....I couldnt find the Hub assembly online..but was able to find the bearings..but considering the milage and the life of these bearings..I am just not sure if it needs to be replaced.
monarch Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 you'll know if and when a wheel bearing is going bad because the noise is rather loud and annoying. An example of something that can damage a wheel bearing is driving fast over an extremely deep and sharp pot hole, or driving on a flat tire. Traumatic things like that.
jzz30 Posted February 15, 2005 Posted February 15, 2005 i changed mine because i was replacing all my front suspension and that was the last thing i did and i did notice a difference over the old bearings( that werent worn or anything) the car rolled smoother.
