Sc 300 Automatic Transmission

Recommended Posts

Howdy!

I had read here to drain and replace the transmission fluid several times rather than flushing the transmission.....and to be sure to use ATF Type T-IV.

When I was in the big city, I bought some ATF Type T-IV at the Toyota / Lexus dealer and a couple drain plug gaskets.

So now I was ready for the weekend to start this project. As I was working on it today....it says on the transmission dipstick to use Dexron II ATF....and in the owner's manual it says Dexron II for the SC 300...but the Type T for the SC 400.

Now I am confused.....Do I use Type T-IV or Dexron? Will it be better if I use the Type T-IV? Is there a problem if I use the T-IV? Is there a problem with Dexron?

Also, after warming up the car and putting it up on the ramps....I drained two quarts out of the transmission. Is that pretty typical of the correct amount?

By the way, my SC 300 is a 1993.

Thanks for all your knowledge and help!!
