  1. I'm not an expert, but a small stereo shop put a new stereo in my 1993 SC300 a few years ago. He said he had to run new wires to power the new stereo, and had to run new wires to the existing speakers from the new stereo. He left the old wires in place so the old stereo could be reinstalled easily.
  2. Howdy! I have a 1993 Lexus SC300. I know that when I put a different stereo system in it the amp made too much noise turning on and off, so I pulled the fuse on the amp and just used the new stereo system. Now (years later) I have put the old system back in the car, and some sound comes out of the speakers, but not much. I think I need to replace the fuse that I took out so the amp works again now.....but I can't remember where the fuse goes. Any help? Thanks!!! sthornto@nvinet.com
  3. 1957 Chevy 2-door Wagon -- my college car -- tilt front end -- wish I'd never sold it! 1973 Porsche 914 -- Great car -- ended up with over 300,000 miles -- It was my car and then both my kids first car -- let it go after it was totalled the second time. 1993 Toyota 4-Runner -- 257,000 miles and still running and very dependable -- not sporty, but very useful! 1993 Toyota Camry -- 320,000 miles and still running and very dependable -- My college age daughter took it over now, and added a tall spoiler. 1999 Jaguar Vanden Plas -- Mostly driven by my wife -- We love the looks, and feel of the car, and all the leg room in both the front and back -- but it's for sale now because little things keep going wrong -- We don't trust it's dependability after 3 water pumps, two steering racks, windshield wiper relays, and a timing chain tensioner shattering. We all love the SC 300, and everyone in the family wants to take it when going anywhere. Bought it used last year with 109000 miles.
  4. My timing belt (1993 SC 300) was changed at 72000...before I bought the car. It has 135000 on it now....and I was wondering what was the suggested interval for changing the timing belt. So....is it every 90000 miles?
  5. Howdy! I had read here to drain and replace the transmission fluid several times rather than flushing the transmission.....and to be sure to use ATF Type T-IV. When I was in the big city, I bought some ATF Type T-IV at the Toyota / Lexus dealer and a couple drain plug gaskets. So now I was ready for the weekend to start this project. As I was working on it today....it says on the transmission dipstick to use Dexron II ATF....and in the owner's manual it says Dexron II for the SC 300...but the Type T for the SC 400. Now I am confused.....Do I use Type T-IV or Dexron? Will it be better if I use the Type T-IV? Is there a problem if I use the T-IV? Is there a problem with Dexron? Also, after warming up the car and putting it up on the ramps....I drained two quarts out of the transmission. Is that pretty typical of the correct amount? By the way, my SC 300 is a 1993. Thanks for all your knowledge and help!! Bruce (sthornto@nvinet.com)
  6. Did you put the Turbo on yourself, or is it something that has to be professionally installed? How hard is it, and how expensive is it to do such a project?
  7. Is that the original engine boosted by turbo? Or is it a different engine? It is a super nice car....must be fun, awesome, incredible to drive!
  8. Howdy! I just bought a 1993 Lexus SC300, and already, the needles on the speedometer, tachometer, and temperature gauge quit lighting up. What I was wondering, is there a way to take the "glass" cover off from in front of the instruments, so I could just paint the instrument needles white? They would be seen all the time then, even when the key is turned off, but that is okay with me. I know I could paint them, but my problem is how the easiest way is to get to them. Thanks for any input form all you experienced experts. This is a great site!!
