dbrittain Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 Hello everyone, I am having issues with my 2001 IS300. I am thinking about finalizing a deal to purchase a 2001 IS 300, but my problem is that it rides rougher than my toyota tacoma truck did, and it was a 4 x 4. I test drove a 2002 and had no road noise and it was a very smooth ride, but this is a horrible ride and you hear a lot of road noise. I am not sure if this is common with all 2001 models, or if it is just this one. Please let me know. Thanks, David
axle13 Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 Hello David, I have a 2001 IS300, and can say from my experience, that road noise is next to none, but when it comes to ride comfort, we'll thats a matter of opinion. When I have my summer tires on, OEM mags/tires, along with the lowered suspension, it's a very stiff ride. Great ride in my opinion, but my grandmother would definately think differently. I really noticed the difference when I switched over to my winter tires which are mounted on 16" rims. With the increase in the sidewall height, the ride felt smoother, and I didn't feel some of the smaller bumps on the road. On the down side, with the winters, the amount of roll that I feel when taking corners has also greatly increased. It's a trade-off between comfort(for lack of a better word) and handling. Axle13
steviej Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 David, I must reiterate axle13's statement in regards to my ES. Keep in mind that tire pressure will also play a part in ride comfort and noise, too. steviej
JCE102JZGE Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 i agree with stevie j. also remember wheel and tire size. lower profile will not be as smooth or "soft" but im pretty sure when u wanna start getting into performance stiffness becomes unavoidable i assume. i love the way my 2001 is300 rides.
