Can someone tell me how many bulbs are in the front map light housing in the overhead console of a 2000 RX300 ? I only see one bulb but it appears that there is a second section for another bulb. I would appreciate any help on this while this repair (if necessary) is still under warranty. Thanx.

1 button = 1 bulb, 2 buttons = 2 bulbs? Do you have an owners manual?

Thanks for the reply.

I do have an owners manual but it only states what type of replacement bulb to use, not how many are there. ( My Toyota Camry owners manual is much more descriptive about entry into the bulb housings of all the bulbs in the car.)

What I really want to do is to open up that compartment to get inside and see for myself, how many bulbs are there. The problem I'm having is that I can't really see a way into the bulb housing. I don't know the entry route into housing. Might someone help with this issue ?

Thanks again.

Take a picture of the housing...I *might be able to help

Thanks again. You've been very gracious with your time to this new member. However, I don't think I'll be able to get a picture very soon. I don't have a digital camera (I'm a 35mm person) and additinally I have a pile of chores to do before Christmas that unfornately take precedence over my seemingly insignificant light bulb issue. So please don't be offended if I don't respond quickly and thanks again for your help. I'll be in touch soon.

Hey ajvenuto,

I have a 2000 Lexus RX300 and I decided to snap some pictures for you during my spare time. I hope you'll be able to get it fix. Good Luck

If you haven't already done so then pop the lens cover off with a screwdriver. You will be able to see all the bulbs without having to remove anything else.

I circled the slot to stick your screwdriver in the picture below:

Dear Robert and 92Lex,

You guys are unbelievably AWSOME !!!

The pictures are fantastic and you even showed me where to put my screwdriver. I did try to wedge a small screwdriver into one of those slots but I might not have gotten the right slot or maybe my screwdriver blade was a little too thick. I was also afraid to break something. I also tried to pull of the entire trim, containing all the switches, but once again I didn't go too far because I was afraid I might do some damage.

The picture showing the iluminated bulb was so good that I believe that alone might have answered my question because I only see illumination coming from the right side of the lens. The area closest to the two mini lens dots. It was the area to the left, opposite the dots that was my concern. It looked big enough that I thought it may contain another bulb.

I will try to open the lens housing anyway just to see if I can get it open, but your pictures absolutely answered my question.

What a welcome into the Lexus Car Owners Club you have given me !!!

I hope some day I can return the favor.

Once again you guys are AWSOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tony

Not a problem...that's what this community is for. We help you now and hopefully you'll do the same and help someone out later on.

Try using a steak knife if the screwdriver you're using is too thick...any of those 4 slots in the lens will work (I just circled one cause I was being lazy).

The deed has been done. I used a very small screwdriver on the slot you marked in red. Although it still felt like I was forcing too much, the lens cover popped off. Low and behold....... only one bulb. MY lens cover however was configured this way.......The two slots on the side where your red circle was marked would be the only side that would swing open, because those slots had little nubs that could be pushed past the lens frame. The slots opposite your red circle had larger tabs that seem to be the "hinged" side. If these were forced open, the tabs would probably have snapped. In any case your red circle was in the right place. Question answered. Game Over.

Thanks again 92Lex and Robert for all you time and help. I'm looking forward to being able to return the favor to someone in need of help some day. Once again you guys are EXTREMELY AWSOME !!!

Best Regards,

Tony
