I have a 99 lx 470 with about 30,000 miles. My side views have stopped rotating downwards on shifting in reverse. I will be taking it to the dealer soon. Anyone else experienced a similar problem. I am hoping it will be covered under my extended warranty.

The movement of the mirrors about drove me crazy at first. I lookied in the owners's manual for a way to turn it off. Finally I discovered that it only works if the mirrors are in the right mode. I believe it works if the adjustment is enabled. If the adjustment is disabled by selecting between left and right it does not do the stunt. Could that be your problem?

Yes that was was the problem. The switch had been moved to to the middle position so it inactivated the mirrors. I checked the manual after your email and its all their in black and white. Probably should reveiw the manual once in a while.

Thanks for the assistance.

a note is that the mirrors failing to return after backing up is somewhat common. I had that happen on my 2000, it was out of warranty but my dealer called Lexus and they covered it ($1,200 for 2 mirrors) I had to pay labor of $90..
