Why did they have to reinvent the oil filter instead of using a regular spin-on  type like most other vehicles for the past 50 years?

This vehicle does use a cartridge-style filter, as seen in the link, above.

Sorry, I’m referring to the old conventional one-piece spin-on type that most cars have used for decades like my 2002 LS430 uses.

I see. Some manufacturers, such as BMW have been using cartridge-style oil filters for years. One advantage is that you can examine to filter media to see if it is catching anything of interest.
