star-runner
I'm looking at a private party sale of an '08 RX 350 that claims to have been imported from Japan. It has a standard left hand side steering wheel, but the dash is in KM and celsius. I've been given a picture of California registration title and VIN # (I haven't run a carfax yet) Is it possible this was just made in Japan? Is this a scam? Can the dash be changed to standard Miles / Fahrenheit?
RX400h
My RX400h was "Made in Japan" but it was not registered in Japan. It was certainly imported from Japan. I did find this: Quote Changing the display settings from metric to imperial in a 2008 Lexus RX 350 can be a bit tricky. Here’s what I found: For the temperature display, it seems that the ability to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius is not a customizable feature according to the Lexus repair manual1. For the odometer and other distance-related displays, it appears that they are fixed in their original format (miles or kilometers) and cannot be easily changed2. One suggestion was to replace the BODY ECM-ECU (Electronic Control Unit/Module) with one from a vehicle that uses the desired measurement system2. However, this could be costly and potentially void your warranty3. Another option mentioned was to use a programmer to convert the miles to kilometers2. However, this might also have implications for your warranty and should be done by a professional.
