Brake Wear Sensors

I have heard a lot of talk about the brake wear sensors and even about how easy they are to break if you don't know what you're doing while changing brakes. I looked at lexls' tutorial on lexls.com and he makes no mention of the sensors. Where are they? How do you replace them? Does just one of them break when your brakes wear down, or all of them? I hope somebody can clarify my understanding of theses sensors.

I don't know what years they started on......

but they are on the right front and right rear calipers. They snap in place on the the inside pad and have current.

It is not a big deal to unhook them; but you should pay attention and be careful about it.

You unsnap them remove the old pad.......put on new pad and resnap......

On my '94 LS there is a wear sensor on each wheel.

If you change the pads unhook them carefully, if you break one = open circuit

and the dashboard warning light will come on.

If it's already on, the sensor has worn through, and will have to be replaced.

It is just a loop of wire that plugs in behind the disc, when the pads get too low

the end wears off creating an open circuit.
