Can I Make My Automatic 96 Ls400 A Manual?

Hello everyone,

I'm new to these forums, so hello! :P

I am currently 16 years old, owning a 1996 Lexus LS400 automatic. I was wondering, could I get a tranny, to fit into my car? I haven't seen much on it, but I was thinking about taking another model tranny, and getting it custom fitted, but would take much work. Do any of you know a solution?

Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome.

In my opinion, I would not recommend this project for several reasons. I think someone did this on a 1991 LS and it was very expensive, complex and has not been very reliable. You are talking about major modifications. If you want a manual shift that bad, I would recommend another car, equipped with that transmission, such as a ES with manual, which are not all that popular.

Good luck.

I would forget it. I saw someone that put a manual 4 speed in a Lincoln Town Car once (although I have no idea WHY) Probably you could find a Ford Tranny to fit a Lincoln, but I doubt you would even be able to find a manual transmission that would come close to fitting a LS400. Then if you ever did get it in, the computer would probably deliver the knockout punch.

Buy a car with a stick. Lot's of choices.
