Ecm Running In Fail Safe?

first off---fantastic site---kudos to all---lots of good stuff

I have a new to me 1994 LS400 with 193k on it. I bought it with 188k. The other day I started it, turned on the AC and went inside to get my stuff. I came out 5-10 minutes later and noticed that the interior hadn't cooled off. When I went to leave, I noticed the MIL was on. I put it in drive but it felt like it was in third or something. I dropped it in low and I could feel the tranny drop into 1st. Driving down the street, the car would not go past 2500 rpm's and the AC compressor never engaged. My son works for a Toyota dealership, so I took it in. Their scan tool could not read the engine code. It could properly read all the other systems, air bags, brakes etc., but no engine codes even though the MIL was on. He installed a throttle position sensor after conferring with the other techs, but to no avail. I don't want to get into a guessing game as to which component is faulty, since all of them are very pricy. I also tried to read the codes myself by conecting terminals TE1 and E1 on either the DLC1 or DLC2. But for some reason the ECM isn't keeping the codes in memory. I have checked the proper terminals at the ECM for function. Ex batt, ign, m relay, ground, and everything. Any input is greatly appreciated. :)

ok, ok, ok. I'll answer my own post. Well if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and quacks like a duck---well------it's probably a duck! It was the ECM. I sent it to a shop in Florida who specializes in Toyota and Lexus ECM's. I got their phone number from ecmtogo.com. It costs about $250 to have them go through and replace every defective component and ones they know will have a problem. I overnighted to them, they fixed it the next day and overnighted it back. I plugged it in and it's as good as new, maybe better. I am very very happy with it. I comes with a 1 year warr, which is more than the 90 day dealer warr I was quoted for the $1200 unit, which will eventually fail again.
