  1. I just had my used (new to me) '99 LS 400 at the dealer today to have the radio replaced (missing segments) and also had them look at the outside mirrors. They're supposed to dim in concert with the main inside mirror, but they don't do anything perceptible. If I have a bright set of headlights behind me at night, and I press the "auto" button on the mirror, the inside one changes radically, but the outside ones do not change at all that I can perceive. My dealer said they "check out" by comparing to a like vehicle. That doesn't cut it. Any one else have experience with this? I'm extremely bothered by bright lights in my peripheral vision at night, I was hoping that with this car I wouldn't have to adjust my outside mirrors down and out of use at night. Bob
  2. Actually, I reread the warranty text and it doesn't exclude struts, per se, but it says that if something hasn't failed yet, but a technician just "says" it's time to replace it, that would not be covered. So unless the struts have broken free from their mounts, or suffered some other complete failure, you're probably on your own. As far as the length of the CPO warranty, it is as I stated before; however, that was not necessarily the case when you bought yours. Bob
  3. They must have changed the deal more recently, the CPO program is now 3 Years from date of used purchase or when the odometer reaches 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Therefore the warranty ends either 3 years from date of purchase or when the odometer reaches 100,000 miles (Regardless of how many of those are yours). I don't know if struts are on the exclusion list or not. Most wear items are excluded. Bob

  5. This is probably a big factor. Maybe I'll just stick to 430 envy. B)
  6. Same exact ones on my radio. What I'm fishing for is whether Lexus covers this without complaint, or you have to fuss a bit. If it occurs frequently, I'd like to get it replaced now and then again just before my warranty wears out in 3 years! Bob
  7. I'm a little disappointed to hear of suspension parts; at only 79,000 miles? Was your car not a cpo? that should be covered if it is, unless it's considered normal wear, which it shouldn't be! Bob
  8. I did a search, but found no answers. My just-bought 99 is black with sort of dark silver metallic lower. Neither my wife nor myself like the two tone paint jobs (even though it kind of reminds me of Rolls-Royce). I'm thinking of having the lower painted black to match the upper body. (Or even doing it myself :o) . Has anyone else done the same? It makes me highly nervous, I don't like making an expensive car non-stock, as people sometimes suspect the car's been in an accident. Thanks, Bob
  9. My 1999 LS400 came off lease in May, went on the auction block, became the property of a local Lexus dealer, and then became mine by the first week of June. I paid a bit more than I might have at a private sale, but got a much better interest rate than I might have on my own. The warranty sounds great, there's only a very small exclusion list, and they state that you are to be treated the same as a new car buyer. I get to test this next thursday, when it goes in for it's first appointment, I want the radio replaced because some of the lcd segments are missing, and I want the outside mirrors dimming to work. The first service writer and the salesman himself didn't even know the outside mirrors are electrochromic, so this'll probably be fun. My car had 50,900 miles at purchase, so my effective warranty is 3 years/49,100 miles WCF. The first three years should be worry free? Or will they? Bob
  10. <_< Don't know if this'll work... I just cleared the drain hose for the Gas Filler opening. Mine was just collecting water, after washing the car the first left turn would have it all run down the side. I took a length of weed wacker line (I think .080, but you could try different weights). I put a little water in there, just enough to fill the filler 'basin', and then used the plastic line to clear the tube. It worked great. Took two times to clear it completely. The line is stiff enough to push crud along but not sharp enough to punture the tubing. I'm hesitant to say it's a sure fix for the sunroof lines as they're much longer and have more turns, but it might be worth a cautious try! Bob
