  1. The "key-mounted" remote for my 2001 GS300 has a very limited range. It barely works from inside my front door to the driveway which is only about 30ft away. It does have a new battery so that's not it. Does anybody else have this problem and is there any way to boost the range?

Pretty normal range, If you put the metal key on your chin and activate you can just about double the range...Strange but true, Your Jaw serves as an antena :blink::unsure:

.....I don't know whether to laugh, or to be amazed . I shall try this today!!!!!

  2. cduluk, I wish I could of gone with a 430 BUT at the time given with the situation I was in, I couldn't wait longer to search for a 430 that was of a decent condition and mileage here in NY. I landed with a sports edition, black with black trim and a ML package with navi and the chromed rims with the stock hids etc etc lol. And I was happy with the price I was able to work it down to and I also like the inline 6.

GS300dude, your advice sounded like it came right out of a fast and furious movie lol. If I could of gone with the 400 or 430 I would. I do have plans of turning my little I6 baby into a supercharged monster that blows the doors off of most imports that I have running around here in NewYork, but until then, I'm looking for as much modifications as possible to squeeze all the quickness I can out of my princess.

Is there anything out there that will do this for me? L-tuned parts? Pixie dust?

Additional: I just did a quick search and stumbled across something on Club Lexus as well as http://l-tunedparts.com. I will need some knowledge on this as well for emissions BUT wouldn't adding a better B and Y pipe increase my HP because of less restriction of my exhaust flow. I think thats the most I can do to get all the HP and TQ out of my car before I start reducing weight like a madman.

If the answer is yes to the above question, my second question is, will I be able to pass emissions with this modication? The things I do for speed  Thanks Guys

Scratch the question about HP..lol of course it will add some hp...but on to emissions... I take it I will probably be losing my first 2 CC if I add headers, but will I be losing an CC when I add the B & Y pipe? And how does a light weight crank pulley sound? Any recommendations on one that is tested to work for a N/A set up? I'm adding a rocket on the roof for extra HP at a push of the "RED" button. Sorry for all the edits

  3. I know about the SRT Intake and I'll willing to invest about $500 right now into the car's performance if I will be able to feel some sort of gains from it before being forced to use forced induction. I read through some threads and came to the conclusion that a muffler system will not provide any gains if i'm not going turbo. So now I'm asking you fellas if there is anything else I can do, along side an SRT Intake that is within $500, give or take $200 to have my inline 6 as quick as it can be.

The main reason for this too is because I want to race a BMW 330i 6speed and I want to be able to do some damage. What are your thoughts?

  4. I recently had a maintenance done at my local mechanic shop owned by my uncle. He use to work for a Toyota service shop here in NY and also employees another head mechanic from Toyota that comes every afternoon. He informed me there was nothing wrong in flushing the tranny fluid. But i guess its also better to be safe than sorry by draining a little and filling it up. Either way, the results should be the same if done with care.

  5. stcist2 was correct. The brake fluid was low. I had them level it off and so far it is fine. I didn't want to check myself because I have a faulty hood latch cable which sticks every now an then. This problem solved... Thanks for all the responses fella's

Glad to hear you resolved the problem. I had/have the same problem with my hood latch sticking. For the first few months I would avoid opening my hood at all cost.

For my car it was the cable strecthing but now that I have located it to the right of the latch all you have to do is give it a tug and the latch releases....if that helps anyone w. that problem.

You say to the right of the latch? Do you mean where the hood clamps on to the chasis when you lower the hood?

If so then thats the same issue I have and when I took it to my uncles mechanic shop today to see what the check engine light was about, he should me how to close my hood when the cable sticks. Apparently you need something very skinny and you push down on the cable which is to the right of the latch and you actually hear the cable snap back into place. Its a pain but coming from a Honda, I have spare tools in my trunk to achieve this :whistles:

And the check engine light was for the #2 Catalytic converter... great

  6. This happens sometimes. Its the same light that indicates my E-Brake is active and this only comes on if I break VERY hard and suddenly for a 2-3 second time span. The light doesn't blink or anything and after I come to a stop or I let go of the brakes the light goes away after another 2-3 seconds..

Is this something to do with my brake pads? I don't think its OEM pads but I know the rotor's are. I had them changed a week before thanks giving.

    Any thoughts fella's?

  7. They start going around 70K but then again, it all depends on how the person drives, or where the person lives. For instance, i'm in NY and we have many pot holes. I also have the sports edition so the extra drop of the .5 of an inch might make it worse.

What I noticed with dealers, especially my dealer, is that they will rather replace the ENTIRE part instead of the one bushing and tell you that part needs to be replaced. Make sure you get a list of the parts cost and also the labor rate for it. You might find it better to by your own bushings for about 100-200 dollars and taking it to a local mechanic to have it done. Plus if your replacing your bushings, you might want to look into Daizen bushings which is made out of polyurethane. Its made out of a different material from the OEM part which last's longer.

  8. The remote will not unlock or lock any doors. The button on either front armrest will lock and unlock all doors. Would this be the dreaded actuator or something else? Remote has new battery in it.

You can have a problem like I did where the car lost all programming of the remote so it will not recognize it for its features. I found out when I took it to the dealership after having it programed 4 months prior by an independant.

  9. Cool video! Ugly race....for the Lexus anyway.

I drove a G37s recently, and I can attest, my GS300 feels like its being pulled by glue factory bound horses in comparison.

That being said, I still like the drive of the GS. My trips are all on highways in Minneapolis...so I'm not pressed for speed too often. The G37s, while zippy, doesn't seem to have the same luxurious drive as my GS. For my purposes...I'll take the GS over the Infiniti G series any day.

    --Duckman

a four door luxury car against a 2 door sports car??? wow nice......

that was actually a 4 door G35. And I agree with Duckman. I drove the G35 2 door, 4 door, and G37 4 door (as well as the FX45) and the ride comfort is nothing like the GS, even tho it may be a tiny bit faster. Plus everyone an there mother has a Infinity now-a-days.

  10. Hello,

Curious what you guys use on your seats to protect/maintain them? Lexus leather products? Armor all?

My interior is flawless w. the exception of the drivers side front seat. Obviously this takes the most abuse, and I know other GS start to crack along the outside left of the seat. It seems to slowly be getting worse in my car...at least it is driving me insane. Its too bad these seats do not hold up better.

Any suggestions/tips? Anyone had their front seat re-wrapped? Cost?

    Guess I got a lemon :o haha

Well my girl has a 04 Rx330 and she has her leather seats covered with seat covers since she got the car in 05. I think its pretty !Removed! for the fact that the covers do not have sleeves for the arm rest for the front seats so the arm rest's CAN"T be used <_<. Thats a pain for me since I'm always driving but thats neither here or there. When I took her car to get detailed, I took the covers off and to my surprise, her seats looked BRAND NEW. I mean there was a little discoloring due to the seat covers but nothing other than that. So if all else fails, you can get some nice seat covers with pink flames on it from Pepboys B)

P.S. If you have any ArmorAll, THROW IT AWAY! That stuff's horrible! NEVER let it touch your leather, or for that matter, any part of your car. There are much better products out there.

I will check out your site but what is better to use on a "here and there" basis other than Armorall. I used it once and it made my seat's look like an oily 13yr-olds face :(

  11. Bro,

Calm down. No one here has a problem with you. Just ask straightforward questions and avoid all the other drama and you will get results.

I am not all that much older than you but still, this is my first lexus and everyone here has been great even when the only response to a question is "this has been covered, search the forum"....that is not a response to get angry about, it just happens to be that simple.

So please man lets just start this over and Im sure you will find that people on here can be of service to you, not based on age, but on experiences & knowledge.

Or we can all just get real angry at our computers. Either way best of luck.

    Regards,

    Chris

im not mad... nor was i.... if you read it closley i was told to grow up and i was taking defence for myself. i wasnt mad i was explaining a point.. that come out of knowhere and i never said anyone on here has a problem with me.?.?.. and ya i know people on here are helpfull. thats why i made a post. and starting over is exatcly what i want to happen. i wanted this to stop along time ago but i got slammed on for being 16 and then everyone starts trying to play my dad. im doing just fine without one. i dont need someone to take that role i know my right from wrongs.. i may be one of the youngest on this forum but that doesnt mean i can't be right. i said sorry and i said i was sorry if i offended anyone. and i explained my reason for saying what i said but my reason and a apology wasn't good enough obviously. thats why i was lectured even more, and had people accuse me of being mad. but its w/e i know i didnt do anything that bad. i made a mistake and i apologized. even tho what was said wasn't directed twards anyone and was said to show someone that i appreciated what they did for me. again, sorry everyone for the inconvenice everyone. and you wont have to worry bout me saying anything stupid anymore cause i just found out i got a transmission problem, with the tss or something. and i have no clue whats going on but my uncle said the trasmission fluid is brown and needs to be flushed and he's worried it might not start after that. so in the end if i need a new trasmission and me not being able to find a job, who knows the next time i'll be back on here. peace.

If it makes any difference to you, I understood what you said when you first complemented 1990LS400. What I took from your statement (if this will help clarify for anyone else) is that you were grateful for the helpful and willing personality of Sir 1990LS400. Its apparent he's helped you on a number of issues and you were just praising him on what he is, and what he's not. You weren't pointing fingers at anyone but of course, just like in any other media, people might take things out of context or just have their own opinion on what you meant (and I didn't mean to offend anyone by this statement because as far as I know, everyone on this forum are all "aces in my book" ;) ). But since everyone is ready to bury this, you shouldn't feel any way towards anyone else.

As far as your tranny fluid, that doesn't sound good. I too have to flush mine out tomorrow as well as get an oil change AND get new bushings. "It ain't tricking if you got it"

  12. Not sure if you were looking for an OEM part, new or used but I did a search on Sewell and found you the price and part number. Heres the link --> 96 Head Light

    Hope that helps!

dude get some after market projectial HID headlights.....make your car unique...... plus they are cheaper.... ebay.com is the best place

I dont think they made those for the 96 model.

  13. 2003 GS 300 (75,000 miles)-- When backing out and coming in to the driveway (as well as hitting rough pavement and speed bumps. My GS is making a clunking sound in the rear suspension or rear end. It is usually on the right (passenger) side but sometimes on the left.

Has anyone experienced bushings for the diff or ball joint issues? ...or anything similar? Ride and handling are the same...

If i'm not mistaken, it sounds like the bushings in your rear suspension is going bad. Check for daizen bushings. You can look here -->Daizen Bushings

Some say polyurethane is the best way to go rather tham OEM. I need to change my front bushings too. I get vibration at high speeds and my car mileage is around that age to get this kinda problem.

    Hope this helps!

  14. i am happy to say i am a proud gs400 owner now! got rid of my 2000 300 and got a black 1998 gs400. iv never drove a 400 befor and wow the difference between the inline and v8 is crazy! i floored it while going 55! and the cars rear wheels lost traction! the sliding icon went off and started beeping. here's a picture for you guys. im so happy with it! i think im the only dood thats 16 who has a 300hp car in my area. OH and only got it for $5800 with 120,000 miles.

and its mine! :D i love how my friends think my mom pulled out a $15,000 loan for me but i bought it with my own money for such a cheap rice :] but mom pitched in 2k shhh

    newblack.jpg

the car has black 20" liquids as you can see and black leather interior! oh and i can't forget to mention the tv's behind the head rest's! black edout taighlights and all lexus badges painted black including grill!. brighter bulbs but dont know how many k it s. and i just wired it up for sound system B)

car does need a paint job cause it was baked in the sun so has a brown tint when exposed to light but other then that this car's and dream and i KNOW it will last me till the day i have enough to upgrade to the new gs430's will post more pics soon!

Congrats on the new whip. I would love to upgrade my 300 to a 400 or a 430 BUT i like having THE only GS like mine in Queens so far. I would love to know how it feels to have a 400(power difference wise). Again, hats off to you to get a car like that a 16. Congrats!!

  15. I saw where somebody posted a way to get around purchasing the expensive Lexus shocks. I have got to replace these as my trunk SLAMS down hard and has hurt a friend of mine and me (it slammed on my neck). Here's what the person said:

Today is your lucky day! Although the gas filled trunk lift supports are only thought to be available through the Lexus dealer at a ridiculously high price, there is a little known cross reference with the Acura Legend Hood lift supports. The Pep Boys Part number for the lifts is SG326003 and the OEM brand name is Lift-O-Mat. I just installed them on my '95 GS 300 and they work great!!! The only difference is on the original version there is a little arm on the shaft that keeps the non-ball end from sliding off the shaft. However, you will see a grove in the shaft. This grove is for the e-clip which is intended for the replacement model. So the bottom line is buy the part number above (make sure the ball is included in the package as some are missing) take off your old shocks and install the new ones with the e-clip. The e-clip is not included however you can buy an assortment at any auto parts place or at home depot. I bought my assortment package at O'Reilly's and the largest one in the package fit like a charm. To hell with the Lexus dealer monopoly on parts. Where there is a will, there is a way. No more hunting for Lexus trunk lift support gas filled shocks. Now you kmow...good luck!

Is it possible for me to install these myself? How do you remove the old shocks and install the new? I've spent way too much money on repairs for my car over the last few months and if this can be done by me, i would like to try to do it. Can somebody tell me?

    Thx,

    Robin

I second this DIY. I also have the same issue with my trunk. it doesn't stay up. I would love to replace this myself as well!!
