  1. I own a 2002 SC430 and whenever I cover it for a few days ( with nothing left on) the battery drains down! Checked the battery and alternator - all are fine. I'm beginning to suspect that automatic light sensor on the dash, or gremlins! The problem only occurs when I put a car cover over the car but not when I use an interior windshield sunshield . Any clues?
  2. RUN FLATS are an excuse for not fitting a spare in the trunk - not a real reason to buy a tire for a great ride! I tossed mine long ago - currently riding on a set of Kumho Platinum ( check them out at Tire rack) and they are the finest I've had yet . . . and I've owned Corvettes and Porsches. I belong to AAA and carry a pump and can of green magic in the trunk. Honestly, how many times have you had flat tires .. and were any where you couldn't get help?
  3. I've been searching for an upgrade to my 2002 sc430's original DVD nav and have been surfing many boards - where I have learned that (A) Toyota/Lexus is a total rip off for the upgrade price and (B) the COPIES usually don't work fully - - either they don't work at all and then you can't even get your original dvd to work in your car again, or the copy has no points of interest or something. Then there are those TORENTS that people post so you can download the latest ripped version... WHAT TO DO... nobody seems stupid enough to pay the dealer prices ( unless you are stupid rich) .. so what can we all do to acquire a disk that is really going to work and not have to play russian roulette with our car's dvd system? IF someone manages to get a working DVD -- then we all should be able to get them and report back - - and some should get a trophy for helping us all out!! I'll keep- checking but I'm not holding my breath. let me know if someone actually is successful in obtaining working copies for the Gen 2/3 nav --- quickclick@gmail.com A friend took the DVD SCREEN out of his Lexus' dash - inserted a top quality Garmin and is actually better off - it has traffic updates and bluetooth - so the customization was well worth it.
  4. "All cruise control units" are NOT designed that way. Maybe I know this from driving waaay more rental cars than the average person. The 25 mph minimum cruise control speed Toyota/Lexus uses is typical if there is any minimum at all. One aspect I have always liked about Ford vehicles is that they do not lose the set cruise control speed after coming to a stop or dropping below a defined minimum speed. I use cruise control almost every day on low speed surface streets here in Kansas -- unless I happen to driving in our twice a day "rush minute" stop and go traffic. I especially use cruise control in the long 25 mph school zones common here -- best way to keep my "lead foot" under control. But I also use cruise control on the typical 35 and 45 mph boulevards in Kansas City ... I probably haven't driven down Kansas City's Ward Parkway without the cruise set at 35 mph since I got my first car with cruise control back in the 1970s. I've even installed aftermarket cruise control -- often ones from Dana -- on a number of cars back when cruise control was not available or a hard to find factory option. I've never been into altering the basic electronics of a car ... but I wish I knew an easy way to keep the cruise control from losing its setting when my speed drops below 25 mph. Does anybody know how? :) EXACTLY my point. And it only works when in the DRIVE 4 position. My old 1996 BMW convertible's cruise control retains the setting no matter if I lower my speed or come to a stop .. a simple touch of resume at anything above 20 mph does the trick to get back to my speed zoned controlled traveling speed! The stalk is also a wonder - just a press and it's on - no button to look for - - wish Lexus would use the BMW system. I can't get any info on altering the setup to avoid the speed setting kill of Toyota. Thanks for the great posting though.
  5. My 2002 SC430 seems only to be able to set the cruise control at 40 mph and above --- and always cancels itself out when I come to a stop. It works fine at highway speeds... but whenever I come to a full stop the settings are canceled out and I am unable to resume previous setting forcing me to manually set them again. Is this normal or do I have a faulty sensor?

  7. I have the latest 7.1 DVD navigation disc for Generation 2 and Generation 3 Lexus navigation. Please private message me or send me an email if you're interested. I test all my discs before shipping and offer a refund/exchange should there ever be a problem. I have the latest 7.1 DVD navigation disc for Generation 4 Lexus navigation. Please private message me or send me an email if you're interested. I test all my discs before shipping and offer a refund/exchange should there ever be a problem. Here is a thread listing which Lexus car is which Generation navigation: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...c=45706&hl= I WAS TOLD that for some reason - - the 2002 Lexus sc430 nav can only read original disks and not the burned copies??? ANYONE Have success with a copy DVD ???
  8. I also have a 2002 SC430 that is badly in need of a nav update - - but I get mixed reports about the 02 year and updates -- most state that LEXUS PT219-GEN23-08 is the update - but some add a warning that it is not recommended for the 2002 ?!!! I sure would like to get a disk at a reasonable price since the dealers charge in excess of $250 - - heck my Garmin NUVI is more modern and more accurate - but I want to use the build in NAV as long as it's in the car. ANY help will be greatly appreciated - PMquickclick@gmail.com = FASTFINGER
  9. That's helpful! the tires were highly rated by Tire Rack , so even they must be wrong.
  10. :chairshot:censored : I bought a 2002 Lexus SC430 with 95K miles and in good shape . . it had run flats that were bald on the rear and newish on the front - so I sold those and bought 4 KUMHO Ecsta LX Platinums - all season tires with 60,000 wear guarantee - on the recommendation of my mechanic. Needless to say the ride is softer but now bouncier and road imperfections that I never experience even in my wife's Mini Cooper are starting to give the car a shutter. Especially at interstate speeds, these road imperfections or pavement changes can be most disconcerting. I had the front end checked, tires rebalanced and alignment done - all that we can come up with is the tires have changed the car so drastically that I now prefer my 1996 BMW convertible's ride to that of this lexus. H E L P -- send all suggestions to quickclick@gmail.com they will be read and appreciated
  11. I just dumped my run flats - replaced them with 4 Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum 245x40x18 traction A Temperture A Treadwear 600 !!!! :D Unbelieveable improvement -- and a long treatwear warranty to boot. Driving between Florida and CT -- without a spare but with AAA and a bottle of fix a flat!
  12. I have a SC430 2002 Gen 2/3--- what is the latest model I can use to upgrade my car's nav ?
  13. :D I just bought a 2002 SC430 but the NAV info still tells the old I95 exit numbers in Florida. No biggie - but I have to think that it's missing tons of other updated info too. Is the upgrade as simple as putting in a newer DVD version? Sounds too easy to be true! I believe I have gen 2/3 -- is there any upgrade DVD/version that will not work with my car's unit - or can I just look for the latest version that I can find on eBay ?!?! Do the newer versions offer any different screens or options? Can I finally enter an address while driving like I do on my portable Garmin? Can I place POI into categories ( work / sights/friends/etc)? ThankX ahead of time. B)
  14. When the teenagers change tires for 20's.. they move way down in the aspect ratio and leave themselves with almost no sidewall and a hard as nails ride... I wish to go the other way and have a sc430 with a more LEXUS like ride --- by finding some 17" rims that will not interfere with my rotors/calipers and allow me to put on a more comfortable tire, with more sidewall to absorb the bumps. I'm past the tire burnout phase of my life. ANY suggestions / recommendations will be appreciated. quickclick@gmail.com
  15. ==================================== TODAY I purchased an 02 sc430 and noticed the nav didn't have correct I95 exit numbers in Florida - what disk can I purchase to upgrade to best most recent improved version? Is it a simple DVD swap or must deal adjust something?
