  1. The standard 9006 bulbs for my 92 ES300 are 55 watts. Anyone know if the aftermarket 80 watt bulbs melt the wires?
  2. Has anyone tried the Sylvania xtravision 9006 bulbs? Are they really noticeably brighter than the standard 9006 bulbs?
  3. Guess what guys, the black knob doesn't adjust the vertical aim. I tried that and it doesn't seem to do anything. I noticed another long metal bolt protruding a few inches from the black knob. So I tried turning that one and voila! Now I have perfectly leveled headlight aim. yay!
  4. I have Michelin Energy MXVP4 Plus tires, whats the difference between these as the Michelin x-ones?
  5. For the paint chips, if I use touch-up paint, how do I get the clear coat finish look? Is there a clear coat touchup product out there?
  6. I have a lot of small paint chips on the front of the hood and minor scratches all over the car from all the years on the road. Will auto detail places be able to remove all of these without a whole new paint job? I've tried using clearcoat safe rubbing compound as much as possible but theres still alot of scratches visible. What is a reasonable cost for this sort of detailing?
  7. Anyone know what the average life of the brake pads on my 92ES300 would be for 50/50 city/highway driving and average non agressive driving? I've put 20K miles on them since I last replaced them.
  8. Its feels like I need a lot of force to turn the black knob in both directions. Is it supposed to be that hard to turn? Also I noticed that the white plastic piece connecting the clear plastic that the metal rod passes through pulls back and is springy. Whats that for?
  9. Do you mean the black knob attached to the clear cylinder with the red lines and the letters R and L? Isn't that the horizontal aim adjust?
  10. Can someone tell me how to adjust the headlight aim on my 92 ES300? The left is slightly higher than the right. Thanks.
  11. Yeah the changer goes in the trunk. the wiring is hidden behind the trunk right side paneling.
  12. I am looking for the cheapest tires that last long with low road noise. I don't need performance tires, just all seasons for San Diego weather. I currently have Michelins which I like but are too expensive. Any recommendations? Thanks.
  13. I had a rough idle problem which also cause the car to stall on steep hills and so took it to the dealer to get it looked at. They diagonosed my air idle control valve to be failing. Which would have cost about $700 to fix with them. I declined the repairs that time, but after a few months I decided to get it fixed. But when they diagnosed it again to be sure it was the valve. They found that it was actually the hose that connects to the valve that was cracked. They replaced it for $195 parts and labor. Seems expensive for just a damn hose huh? Car idles fine after that. Anyway, they said the hose cracks because my engine mounts were worn and the engine movement tugging on the hose caused it to crack. I had the dogbone engine mount replaced elsewhere for cheaper.
  14. So is there any conflict/link with the security/alarm system when you remove the radio?
  15. Thanks steve. A quick question about removing the air vent. You wrote: "First you have to remove the air vent as shown in the picture below. Inside the air vent you shall find two clips (bottom of the vent). You have to push these clips down with a screwdriver to release the Stereo unit. When the clips pop out you then have to carefully pull the air vent out. Also the air vent is a little tight." I am a little confused about the two clips. Do you push the clips down before or after you pull the air vent out? I guess I'm unclear about whether the clips are holding the air vent. Thanks
  16. what kind/brand of silicone spray did you use sk?
  17. Hi I just bought a new head unit from ebay for my 92ES300 too. It came off a 95 ES300. Can someone tell me how to take out the old head unit? Where are the screws located? Do I have to take out the cup holders to access the screws? I still have to get the changer though. But when I do, is the trunk the only place it will go? Thanks for any help!
  18. Has anyone tried putting on a fresh uniform layer of silicone adhesive over the rubber insulation? How about a thin layer of silicone grease?
  19. When I'm driving my 92 ES300 over 45-50 mph with all the windows closed I hear a lot of wind rush. Can somebody tell me what I can to do minimize this problem? Thanks.
  20. Thanks amf, I called up a non-dealer shop which estimated repair costs between $1000-1200. Does this sound right? In anycase I guess thats much better than the dealers price of $4100 minimum. :o
  21. Thanks steviej, also I forgot to mention that I see quite a bit of white steam/smoke coming out of the exhaust, could this indicate that I really do have a headgasket leak? A pretty strong gas odor is present too.
  22. I had the thermostat, radiator top tank and the power steering pump replaced 9/14/01. I don't think the thermostat will go bad so quickly. Right?
  23. My 92 ES300 is overheating and spewing coolant out of the reserve tank! At first it was a slow coolant leak. The dealer said it may be a headgasket leak, and recommended that they take apart the engine to find other sources of the problem for a minimum cost of $4100. Since thats nearly the cost of the car, I declined and I put in some StopLeak (the dry powder type) in the the radiator, and topped off the orange coolant. This seemed to slow down the leak a bit. I was able to drive around for a couple weeks fine. Then a couple days ago, while driving I noticed the temp gauge going up to near the top and steam coming out of the hood. I parked and lifted the hood and noticed the the coolant in the reserve tank is boiling out. After it cools down to the point that it stops boiling. I put in some Prestone Liquid StopLeak and refilled the radiator with about one or two liters of orange cooling. After filling up the radiator with the orange coolant. I can drive about 30 minutes on the mostly freeway before the temp sensor goes high and the coolant boils out of the reserve tank. Do you think my waterpump is dead? Could it be that I clogged my radiator somehow with the StopLeak stuff? Also how do you tell if a radiator cap is bad? I don't see liquid coming out of the cap so I am assuming its fine. Thanks for any help!

  25. Thanks stevie, I've checked the catalogs online for a few of these aftermarket manufacturers of gas charged lift supports, Mighty-Lift, Strong Arm, Max Lift, and Sachs. But none seem to carry any info/part numbers for the 92 ES300, does anyone know if its the same as the Toyota Camry?
