  1. Here's the story...Bought my GS from a private owner and showed me all the service records from with Lexus. Thinking cool, until yesterday when I check the tranny fluid level and was way beyond the "H" mark. So I proceeded to do a drain and refill on the tranny. It drained out little over 4qts of fluid "that's almost twice as much as required". I filled it to up and only needed 2 1/4 qts. . I know the consequence of overfill and now I'm hoping the tranny is OK!

It was my mistake of not checking earlier...But to all Lexus owners out there double check to make sure everything is proper on your vehicle often!!!

  2. It can be done, but will take some work since the volume control and other controllers will have to be relocated eslewhere or you will need some sort of controller to replace that. I think it would be much easier if you would swap out the factory cd player with the dvd player and go from there!!!

  3. Be aware that the 90,000 service will be soon for that vehicle. It willl be the most extensive and costly of all services. Both the timing belt and spark plugs will most likely be part of that. The car probably has been sitting on the lot since last june so that could be questionable as to why and if service is performed accordingly. Maybe you can check that vin# out at another lexus dealer for the service history.

  4. Hi all, I will do some routine maintenance soon. I have some questions regarding Power steering and coolants used on my 99 GS. My power steering is slightly below full it looks a bit brownish clear. Am I reading the manual correct or is it a misprint? The manual states the use of ATF dexron III for power steering. I thought dexron ATF are redish in color? So are they compatible? And second, I've checked the coolant and it's reddish in color. But the manual calls for ethylene glycol which is traditionally green in color. Are the red toyota/Lexus coolants any special or maybe I have the wrong coolants in my car now? Would appreciate feedbacks!!!

    Thanks,

    Kevin

  6. Had my GS400 for little over 8 mo. now and not a single problem on it since. So really I can't tell you much on problems it might have. But one known problem I've been hearing alot on 98+ GS is headlight condensation? I Bought my GS with 50k from a private owner with service records to show. As with buying any used cars you just have to look carefully. I've test driven a brand new 03' GS430 and could not tell much of a difference in terms of power and feel. I thought the Mark Levinson system was nice on the 430.

I'm not 100% sure but I think 98-00 GS's have a hardrive based navi system and 01' + GS's have a DVD Navi system. One thing I dislike about Lexus navi system is that the vehicle has to be completely still in order to operate. But heard there is an overide for the dvd base version. I would not recommend the navi system for the 98-00. But if you're not good with directions then it's not a bad option to have especially if you can find one with a good deal :) .

    Good luck!!!!

  7. Hi Jimmy, I've had the same problem with my GS's front left side from a pothole. I had to replace one of my OZ rims due to it being bent beyond repair :( . But I think my problem was more noticeable "more like a rubbbing sound". Didn't have a clanking sound to it though. Turned out the wheel bearing was dammaged. You should have the problem checked out. There could be something damaged or out of placed causing the sound.
