  1. Alan, tried to send you the following email, but it came back. Guess I'm taking up the invitation to contiue this conversation on the bulletin board.

    Hey Alan,

Thought we'd stop cluttering LOC for personal stuff.

Whereabouts are you? We're going to be in NYC next week to visit my mother who is in nursing home in Woodbury. We'll be visiting friends in Midwood area(Foster and Newkirk). If we came from LI via Belt Pkwy maybe our cars could meet for a few minutes.

    Let me know.

    Joel

  2. Oh, go ahead and be a Spoilersport!

Thank you for this post because my whole concept of ES300 being an "old farts" car has been blown away by the posts on LOC board, where people in their teens, genx's, as well as 30's and 40's seem to predominate.

I have been especially impressed by the interest in stereo upgrades, badging, spoilers, and other after market touches. I've been telling friends what a revelation this has been for this 63 year "young !Removed!".

Alan, I would never have guessed your age from your posts, but nothing about new yorkers should surprise me, given that I'm a "brooklyn bum" who happens to enjoy dual status in "torontaa, the good" (SK will recognize this pronunciation).

  3. Got the cover today- nice looking gray colour to hide dirt and hopefully blond hair.

Easy to install and took a test ride and it worked well- didn't start coming off. it's made of a sherpa wool man-made fibre, and supposed to be cool in summer and warm in winter. Let's see what Montana has to say.

Keep you posted. Sorry, don't own a digital camera- perhaps i can borrow one to send a picture.

  4. Got a Yellow lab who loves our 2000ES. We use sheets in back, but this is both messy and doesn't help the look of the car. Are there any back seat covers available for the 2000 model? A Canadian doggie magazine advertising one that's supposedly tailored for each car but it goes forCd $150. The car is sage green(almost looks like a dark grey taupe) with beige leather. I've tried Cdn Tire, Walmart, etc.

    Any suggestions? Thanks

  5. I recently bought a 2000ES with 23K(Kilometres in Canada). I have almost 2 and a half years left for full lexus warranty from dealer. Do I have to have service at lexus dealer in order to keep Canadian lexus warranty? The dealer is a joint lexus/ toyota dealership(Scarborough.

If not necessary, any suggestions from Toronto area folk for someone who gives good service and is cheaper than lexus. They want $275.Cdn plus tax for what I consider to be minor stuff, such as fluid changes, etc.

    Thanks.

  6. Here's a very low tech alternative. I had a similar problem many years ago (admittedly a very low tech car) and it turned out to be dirt in gas tank. This can happen if you run it almost on empty and somehow there's crap that you can pick up from various pumps. It happened intermittently.

Probably not the reason, but something to consider if everything else seems to be working ok.

  7. thanks for responses. I always think the LS looks like the Acura RS, a great, but bland car.

joining this bulletin board had blown a number of my original conceptions about the car and the owners. amazed that there are so many young people who own them, even if they buy older models. and the amount of detailing that people are into- blows me away. Not so many old farts as I would have thought. i presumed i was one of the younger ones, but i suspect i'm the oldest !Removed! on this block, or bb

  8. Steve,

Thanks for the tip about the brake. I don't know if that's the reason I was finally able to set the positions, but it's as good as any explanation.

Do you prefer the LS over the ES? I guess rear wheel drive is getting more popular of late, what with Infiniti and Volvo trying to outdo BMW and Lexus.

  9. Hi,

I've been so busy reading all of the new messages on the Board that I forgot to post that I was able to program the driving positions. I'm still amazed about how the mirrors move as well as the seat. Now, if only the rear view mirror would move as well....

Don't ask me why it worked when I did the same thing several previous times. I did check with lexus about fuses before I was able to program. The service rep seemed to be just as cowed over the myriad # of fuses in my 2000ES. Happy not to have to go that route. Thanks for good advice- who knows- I may have to go back to it.

  10. Steviej,

Tried it again with no success. I did notice that there is a problem with the buttons- while there is some spring to the Setting button, and a little less so for the #2 button, there is no spring to #1 button. That is, it seems to be stuck in the down position. I tried to spring it free, but don't want to jam it any worse.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

  11. Mississauga and Steve,

thanks for the tip. There's a white button to left of Park on shift lever. Pressing it doesn't generate any message on the dash. Also, there's nothing in owners' manual in the several different settings. I'll check with dealer. I'll also check on radio code.

    Zeta,

Son-in law works for a branch of Aegon insurance, and he doesn't own a Lexus. My daughter who works in Arlington wants one, probably the RX300 or 330. She has to convince him that it's time to move up in the world from her Camry and his Corolla. We'll see...
