  1. My 2000 LX470 with about 160,000 miles lost it's suspension fluid, via leaks through the shocks, accumulator, and rusty lines. LEXUS wanted about $8700 to fully repair....and that did not include a new pump or other leveling switches which were working. I did some research and I just converted to a Toyota 100 land Cruiser type suspension system for about $1,700 installed. The ride is great, but I lost the rise and lower feature of course. There are a few kits on the market, but I choose Strut Master mainly because my mechanic had good luck with them in the past. My kit was $500, and labor to install was $1200, which included a new alignment. The top of the rear shocks are a !Removed! to get off, so my mechanic cut a small hole in the floor above, and patched it after the install, which is hidden under the mats anyway. The kit has 4 shocks and two stronger rear coil springs to simulate the Landcruiser. I highly recommend this conversion as once the hydraulic suspension begins to go, you could spend thousands to repair. The original system has so many parts that can fail so I highly recommend the conversion. My 17 year old LX470 is probally only worth $8,000 now, so I am not concerned about any loss in value from the conversion. And I never have to worry about expensive repairs on the suspension ever again.

  2. 2000 LX470

I am missing two of the roof rack end caps....Lexus has none in stock and item may be discontinued. My color is taupe, but I can repaint here.

These caps are about 9.5" long by about 3" wide, and there are 4.

    Anyone find replacements yet?

  4. I ended up with General Grabber recommended on TireRack.com....no problems yet, $565 installed for 4....

I am now going for my next set of tires. I had the Michelin LTX before and now the Michelin Cross Terrain. Anyone try the Michelin Latitude HP Tour? Any idea if it is better than the LTX and Cross Terrain. Cross Terrain threads last like 20k longer than LTX. I drive in snow like 2-3 weekends and a few weekends on dirt road/mud a year. Appreciate any input.

I have had the Michelins but I love my Goodyear Triple Tread. They outperform the Michelins in all respects. Take a look at www.tirerack.com and read the reviews.

  5. I just got my 2000 lx 470 back with free paint. My dealer, Inskip Lexus of warwick, RI,, will repaint smokey topaz for free. Ask for mark ellis in service. Mark does not care about one owner or prior service history. Amazing.

Just got my paint job for no cost on my 2000 LX470. Simply, contact your dealer. I know smokey topaz is on there list, maybe others. I do not know if there is national policy, but they decided to repair mine sight unseen, after checking with a regional rep.

  7. My 2000 LX470 is in the shop right now for a full free paint job, as I had fading smokey topaz paint. However, please give me about two weeks and I will give you all the details. I simply don't want other forum members bugging my dealer until I get the car back. I hope you understand.

  8. I have about 115K on my 2000 LX470, and my local dealer recommended a new timing belt and water pump for about $1300. Is this fair?

Also, at 115K, what else is really required, I change the engine oil at 5000, new tranSmission filter/oil, new brakes. I KNOW THIS QUESTION IS ANSWERED IN THE OWNERS MANUEL, BUT WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT.

The reason my LX is at the shop is that I am getting a free full paint job, cuase my smokey topaz is fading due to a defect. Lexus is great.

  9. I have a 2000 LX470 with an extra amplifier and head unit. No speakers or cd unit.

Does anyone know where I can find a used Nakamichi Stereo set?

Also, what about aftermarket products such as Alpine? Are they easy to install and fair valued?

    Thanks!

  10. same happen to me...but I have smokey topaz...and this is a known issue. It seems lexus will cover this, but different parts of country they seem to have different policies?

-I need advise on how to take care of the paint fading on my LX470-2002. Has anyone seen this problem before? Paint is turning white from the inside. My LX470's original color is gold.

-If you have the same issue and took care of it, what did you do? Did you take it to the Lexus dealership for a body paint touch-up? This is what I am thinking of doing.

  11. I also get a squeak whem turning my steering wheel...lexus service did not fix it.

Co any of the steering components above the brake pedal need lubrication? I hear a sqeaking sound when turning. Could be the rubber boot at the base of the steering shaft. Any input would be great.
