  1. I had the same problem and new strut towers along with new struts fixed it completely. I paid around 500 bucks for the repair but it could be a bit more if you take it to the dealership.
  2. spalkin, thanks for the reply. You're most likely dead on with the strut plate suggestion. They're so worn out that you can smell burnt rubber after 2 miles of driving coming from the towers!
  3. I have heard of this description before and now it's happening to me! 98 es300 118,000 miles It mostly seems to make the noise when it's cold outside and as the day gets warmer it's not as obvious. It seems to me to be a problem with the strut? I'm guessing the strut isn't bad but maybe just the tower? Any help would be appreciated! thanks, Glen in California
  4. 28 male - just bought 1998 es300 and I couldn't be happier. I had a '05 Altima that started to go lemon on me with only 57000 miles on it! Crazy enough it feels like I upgraded buying a car that's 10 years old and has 118,000 miles on it! Wish I would have gone this route 2 years ago. When I test drove the lexus it was amazing how quiet the motor was and how smooth the transmission shifted. This is a car with well over 100k and it drives like it's brand spankin new! One added bonus is my co-workers brother is an actual Lexus mechanic. When I asked for his advice on this purchase his exact word was "bulletproof." Good enough for me!
