  1. ok- so my power steering pressure hose popped, most of it is steel- but the 6" piece of rubber blew a hole in it.( I am wondering why this happened)

i am going to replace only this rubber piece to see if the pump is still ok.

does anyone know how much pressure it should hold, and where I could get just a 6" piece of it?

should i replace the clamps on each side too?

    will this work?

    thnx!

  2. When one of my p/s hoses went on another car ('77 Excalibur), I took the old hoses to my local hydralic hose company and they made me new ones (fittings and all) for a pittance (less than $25). Suggest you try that route but do not tell them that it is for a motor vehicle.

HRP- the pressure hose is mostly steel- but the part that blew is the rubber 6" - do you know what pressure this piece should carry- ot how to find out?

I am going to replace just that piece, as the rest seems fine.

that is a great idea, but where do you find a hydralic hose company? ha ha

thank you for that suggestion! :)

  4. not only is my starter solenoid clicking- but i am also getting a buz- not beep- a buz upon startup. hoping this is just part of the starter going out?

should i give it :( up?

ok- just asked a friend who is a mechanic- he said-yep- prolly part of the starter going out.

    hope so-

thanks everyone again for all your help!!!!!

  5. I go out to my car in the morning the last couple days and it won't start. All I get is a clicking. Cluster, radio etc... comes on but fan doesn't blow any air through vents.

If I put it in neutral and let it roll forward a couple inches that works for the most part but sometimes it doesn't and I have to boost it. I had my battery tested after a 90 min. drive and its fine.

    Any ideas? I'm stumped.

LET'S HOPE IT'S NOT THE STARTER!!!!

  6. OK but 99% of the work is getting to the starter and then putting it all back together.

There are some good tutorials on how to do this if you are adventurous enough. If a DIY oil change or brake job seems daunting I wouldn't consider doing this one on your own.

If you're paying $500+ in labor it might be better to replace entire starter motor with a rebuilt as the solenoid maybe the current problem but loose bearings, drive gear, worn brushes, or a scored commutator might not be far off.

yea, i'm gonna replace the starter motor- once he gets in there-it would be crazy not to......got a quote for about $1100..

    but prolly more.......

this is it.....i'm trading it in on a mazda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. my starter is clicking and it has been going out for several months--decided to replace it. my mechanic says he can do it----any tutorials on this procedure?

my mechanic is an engine guy, so i feel confident he can do it.

apparently it is in the V of the engine, and it is quite a job.

    anyone else had this done?

  8. so, i took it in to my mechanic......and he said that my starter was going out! it has been clicking for a while...and i thought so.....soooooooooooo......new lexus starter $262.00...and since it is in such a crazy place...why wouldn't it be???

he gave me a quote of $1100 to replace!! he said the labor would be about $500.

    OUCH!!!
