  1. I feel your pain... I got one shortly after picking up my IS. I was on the highway and took a wrong turn and had to back track a bit, and that was when I got a rock chip. I took it to the glass shop to get it filled right away, and so far it hasn't spread (over a year now.)

I hear that if you have rain sensing systems, the windshields are ridiculously expensive to replace. Is that true?

YES, that is a fact. I required the gentleman I purchased our '07 ES 350 from to have the "rain sensing" windshield replaced and he claimed it through his insurance b/c it came to a total of $1,500 and the glass company would ONLY replace it at the dealership b/c of the rain sensors - YIKES! He had a $250 comprehensive deductible and did have to pay it.

  2. If I had $400 in parking tickets and my parents paid for them, I'd be focusing on how to pay for a shrink for me, my Dad, and my Mom! B)

If he wrecks his "new" car, I think he will need more than a shrink! Mom and Dad should have refused to pay for their young Son's parking tickets! What happened to the "moral of the story" lessons of days gone by? I will now step down from my "soap box"!

  3. Dash rattles are a well known problem, so much so, that the dealerships have TSB's on how to take care of them. It sounds like you may have some blown speakers. Let them take care of it, and they should give you a loaner while the car is being repaired. Describe the problems as accurately as you can, especially on how they can reproduce the problems.

You may have to return the car for a second or even third time to fully repair the rattles.

That's good to know, thanks! I'll definitely make mention of those things! The only issue would be the loaner car because I'm 18 and I don't believe I am allowed to take one :P

I would argue that. If you are old enough to purchase a LEXUS vehicle, assuming your name is on the registration, then the dealership should be willing to accomodate you with a loaner car. You can serve in the US military and you can vote, you should be able to secure a loaner.

  4. Agreed - an iPod docking station woud be IDEAL. I think it is safe to say that far more audiophiles would appreciate the iPod docking station vs. a tape deck. IMO. OR a place to hold the key FOB. I don't always like to keep it in a pocket. OR another place for little gadget storage (I.E.: a thumb drive, sunglasses, eye contact case, etc) - this is a luxury LEXUS product, I think they could come up with something creative.

  5. Agreed, the FM antennae is HORRIBLE! I live about 35 miles South of Denver and get very poor reception until I am about 30 miles outside of Denver. I have an appointment to have my head unit replaced on Monday (CD player decided to go into an endless ERROR 3 mode).

  6. We just bought an 08 is 250 and had them install the muffler and F series wheels. The car came with the X package and we opted to install the rear spoiler. We were the first to have the F stuff in sacramento which felt nice for a week or so. When I asked the dealer Id like to have my stock exhaust back they questioned why I would want it.....? Its brand new. You'll see it on ebay or craigs list soon. The exhaust has a nice tone and its not an annoying vibrating humm that you hear with alot of aftermarket exhausts. Clear bra is next.

What was the cost for parts and installation? We are all curious :) How about some pics?

  7. I just received a quote from my Stealership on the cold air intake - $541.45 installed. This pricing is absolutely ridiculous!!! Does anyone know if a NON Lexus dealer can install the F-Sport parts and it still be covered under warranty?

I stand corrected. I assumed this was the "installed" price; however, I was just informed by the service department that this is just for the CAI and does NOT include installation! What a ripoff! Also, the exhaust was quoted at $1,500 NOT including installation.

  8. Congrats Bill and welcome to LOC!!! I like the fact that you have black colored interior carpeting, I wish mine was black. If you golf, definitely look at putting the clear bra on the back bumper as well. You will be amazed at how much aggrevation this will save you each time you drop your bag onto your bumper by accident.

  9. All,

I am a VERY happy car owner as I just finished inspecting and happily paying for my Paintless Dent Repair! The company here in Denver is Caropractor (pretty catchy huh?) and the owners name is Mark Phillips. He did an AMAZING job!!! He miraculously removed my 3 door dings (one of which was on the bend of my rear fender) for a total cost of $135!! Again, amazing work.

For anyone in Denver needing this service Mark's phone number is (303) 905-3527. I would HIGHLY recommend him.

  10. How about a "bumper ding...self inflicted".

On Saturday I was running errands and in a hurry (mistake 1). I pulled into the the Wawa my nose towards the nose of a pickup truck that was about 6' feet infront. I stopped the car and jumped out...jumped out w/o either putting the car in park or pushing the off button (mistakes 2 & 3). As I shut the door I couldn't imagine why the pickup truck was moving...oh sh*t I was moving. I moved in what felt like ultra-slow motion to open the door and jump in the car. I got the door open, in and pushed the brake milli-seconds after car stopped because the pickup's tow ring was creating a softball size dimple in my front bumper.

I waited for the owner and we exchanged numbers....luckily I'm the only one w/damage.

Going on Thur for an estimate.

What can I say other than, "I am a dumb a**!" :cries:

Bummer - sorry to hear that PA350!

  11. no matter how far out you park there's that smart !Removed! that know's why you park out that far and he decides to park right next to you. All door dingers must be punished!!!lol.

    Yellow-Scorpion,

Amen brutha! To answer Smooth1's earlier post, YES, I take up 2 spaces in BFE; however, it sometimes attracts the A-hole Yellow-Scorpion is referencing in this post. Unfortunately, I am not quite in a position to go out and purchaser the "clunker" I need to leave parked at the airport and to run errands around town :( So, for the next few months I will continue to employ as many tricks as I know to hopefully "avoid" the Inconsiderate Door Dinger crowd!

  12. I was pleased that my ES350 had a tape deck. I have a large collection of cassettes that I collected years ago, some with music complilations that cannot be duplicated. By the way! I still have my 8-track player.

YIKES!!!!! It's time to upgrade, you are truly missing out on today's sound quality :)

  13. I just bought a used 2006 IS 350 with about 18k miles on it. So far I love the car and I’m very happy with it. However, I do have a few questions for you already owners.

    1) Does anyone change their own oil? Do you know how to reset the computer so it quits

saying its time to change your oil?

    2) Has anyone put a cold air intake on their car? If so what kind of performance gain are we

talking about? I see that AFE makes one.

    3) I have a small little crack on the back bumper that’s about a quarter inch. Any idea as to

how much it would cost to repair? Would the entire bumper need to be replaced?

    4) The car has navigation. If the navigation DVD hasn’t been changed does it need to be

    changed with an updated version?

    5) What kind of know issue has people reported? Has there been any recalls on anything?

    Thank you,

    Gabe

    Gabe -

Welcome to LOC :) I just recently purchased the same vehicle with 9,450 miles w/out NAVI.

Check out the "Pinned" thread (http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=41473) related to the TSB's (Technical Service Bulletins), which are ALL still covered under your original warranty on the vehicle. The TSB's should cover all of the recall items from Lexus.

As for the vehicles NAVI DVD, most manufacturers release an update every Oct. My recommendation is to wait until Oct. to get the latest updates, especially if you live in an area with a lot of new construction that has taken place in the past. There are various threads posted on LOC regarding changing out the NAVI DVD, here is one: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=47274

    Good luck and have fun!

  14. BFE means, "Bum F**k Egypt"

Parking at the airport and I never leave my IS there. I let the wife use her Altima or the blazer we have. The 350 stays in the garage for the most part.

Hi - I bought my IS 250 3 weeks ago and I LOVE it. I park a million miles away - but everyone is pretty much used to that by now. Sorry for the dumb question but what does, "BFE" mean?

Our other vehicle is an '07 ES 350, so either way I loose :( I have an appointment tomorrow to have the "dings" repaired. I may need to purchase an older vehicle for my airport trips so that I don't loose my mind.

    F-Sport 22, 5-Spoke Wheel Set - LX 570

    Price

    $2,780.00

Lexus is sorely missing the mark on their F-Sport line! I guess they don't understand economics very well. At a reasonable price they are more apt to have a higher volume, thus higher profits. If you were to add the entire F-Sport line of accessories I think you would top the price of an IS-F, where is the sense in that?

  16. Hello fellow members :)

I recently purchased a beautifully kept '06 IS 350 in mint condition and was extremely upset when I returned from a trip to KC to learn that my new ride had 3 "door dings" on the drivers side of the vehicle  I typically park in BFE; however, the Denver airport has become so busy and garage parking sooooooo expensive that I parked in the economy lot (BIG mistake).

I contacted my local body shop and they referred me to a "travelling" car dent repair individual (Caropractor is the name of the business). Has anyone utilized one of these repair services? What was your experience?

    Thanks for the help :D

  17. Great thread. I contacted my "Stealership" about 2 weeks ago and they don't have a clue :( They couldn't provide me with pricing or with an ETA on when they might receive the F-Sport parts. IMO they should add an ECU to this list so that it is a warrantable item :) That is the only reason I would pay for these items as they do not void the manufacturers warranty!

  18. I recently hit 15,000 miles on my lexus es 350. I contacted the dealer to schedule an oil change at which time they reminded me of the 15,000 mile service for the amazingly low price of $350.00. Being the inquisitive person that I am I asked what was included in the service. It included an oil change, tire rotation, brake inspection, inspection of tire tread, fluid refill and tire inflation. With the exception of the oil change and the tire rotation this service does not even require the mechanic to get his hands dirty..... My suggestion to you is this: if you have the basic knowledge on car maintenance, do it yourself. The oil change is a no brainer, tire rotation is just a minor hastle, and the rest just requires a simple visual inspection....

I paid over $500 for a 15,000 mile service last year. Today, when I called to make an appointment for 30,000 mile oil change, I was told my ES350 needs another sevice which costs $700. I was very upset. My question is if I only do oil change, will that affect my warranty?

This is the list of service for $700. Are there all necessary, and have to be done by a Lexus Dealer?

    • Change engine oil

    • Replace wiper inserts

    • Install 44k fuel additive

    • Install motor oil additive

    • Replace AC filter

    • Replace engine air filter

    • Replace brake fluid

    • Rotate and balance tires

    • Adjust fluid levels

    • Measure F&R brake rotor and pad thickness

    • Reset service reminder

    • Inspect the following:

    • Ball joints and dust covers

    • Brake pads and rotors

    • Drive shaft boots

    • Nuts and bolts on chassis and body

    • Steering linkages

    • Brake lines and hoses

    • Differential oil (Front on AWD also)

    • Exhaust pipes and mountings

    • Rack and pinion assembly

    • Transmission fluid

    • Road test

Not a car person myself, I need some help in deciding what to do.

    Kevrisva -

I found a great "non-dealer" mechanic who uses genuine Lexus parts and will do everything the Lexus dealer does for about 30% less! I did my research on the mechanic and he has an excellent reputation in my area. I actually spoke with the owner of the shop and he explained that the Lexus warranty remains in tact, provided wherever you have the work done can document the "factory recommended scheduled service" was completed per the Owner's manual.

However, SW03ES makes a good point in that your Lexus dealer does provide a loaner vehicle, or they should, and the national database Lexus maintains on your vehicle does add value - you just need to personally decide what that value is worth. If you maintain your vehicle and cna provide ALL the maintenance records when you sell or trade the vehicle, then you should be able to obtain the same market value as you would have by having Lexus service the vehicle.

    Good luck to you.

  19. Wow! I just bought a 2008 Tahoe with voice command and Nav system. My 2007 ES' system is light years ahead of GM's. More resolution and more intuitive than the Tahoe's, which is what I'd expect. I'm interested to see how the new Ford Focus' voice command sys is going to perform. It was developed by Microsoft. I still don't think I'd buy a focus because of it, but all of these advancements make the market better. By the way, on the GM nav, it also greys out the buttons while the vehicle is in motion, and you also have to hit the OK button everytime the car starts so I think this is the trend for the future. The closest Nav I've seen that compares (besides aftermarket) is Acura's. My friend's TL is pretty smooth, but the Lex' still has higher resolution.

The Honda/Acura system is still the most intuitive and easy to use NAVI system in the marketplace AND it allows you to enter info while driving!

  20. I own an 08 IS 350 with the 18 inch wheels. Now I know you guys have mentioned some all season tires above. Do those fit the 18 inch wheels as well? If not anyone know if some that I could look into more? Thanks

    GoodYear Eagle F1's :)

I had those on a Firebird and got caught in a couple snowstorms in Ohio. The tires did fine.

Welcome to the darkside! That is some transformation - Firebird to a Lexus :D
