  1. We have an 08 GS460 and have been very pleased with it. As we read about other GS's rattling dashes we have felt fortunate not to have had this occur with our GS. There are very few GS460's in this forum that I see. We have just begun to experience a situation with the shift between 1st and 2nd gears. We're wondering if the ability to change the gears in the sport mode has somehow messed up the transmission. The dealership says that's the way it shifts..we disagree based on our driving the car for the 1 year before the issue started. We love driving our GS460. You will never have a situation where you lack the power you need. It goes from 60mph to 100mph in a couple of seconds and it does it incredibly smoothly. The sport suspension makes a huge difference in the steering. We loved the BMW 550 and chose the GS because overall it was a better "deal". The GS in standard mode doesn't have the road feel of the BMW, but with the sport suspension it comes close. You asked about the E and 5 Series. At the time we purchased our GS the only Mercedes with a good review was the CLK, which was too small for us. As for price we paid 60,000 US new with every bell and whistle that existed in November of 2008. Enjoy the turn of heads as you glide past slower cars in the beautiful silence and smoothness of your Lexus.
  2. Hi, We have a 2008 GS460 and love it. As mentioned, the 1st shift from 1st to 2nd in the morning can be a shock, but after that the 8 speed transmission is a dream. The car can accelerate from 70 to 100 very quickly and smoothly. We love the seats, the sound system, and the ability to choose the suspension we want. We wish for a bigger trunk and a nav system that could understand us and not require us to be stopped to work. There are frequent comments about rattling sounds from the dash and, knock on wood, we haven't experienced that yet. We can get 28 to 30 mpg out on the freeway, plus, it's a great looking car. We test drove other cars, and as drive down the freeway we remember the BMW drivers can't figure out their music due to the idrive, and the Infiniti drivers can't hear their music due to the road noise. We love our GS.
  3. We also have a GS460 and attempted to drive it last fall in the snow. We live on a very steep hill and it was almost impossible with run flat tires. With as little as 1/2 inch of snow we couldn't get into our garage without shoveling. We were both raised driving in the snow - so that isn't the issue. We're also looking for tires that will get us through this winter.
  4. Hi, Love our GS460 and couldn't agree with you more! I'm tired of hearing about how great the Infiniti M is. We drove it and the ride was rough and the sound system didn't come close to the Levinson partly due to the loud rode noise. BMW 5, well I have to admit I sure liked the handling, but pop my 460 into "sport" and it comes close without the bothersome idrive! Too many of the posts are complaints...let's hear it from others who love their GS460!! Our summer vacation is designed around winding roads just so we can enjoy our new car. Thank you Lexus!
  5. Hi, We drove both the 350 and the 460. We bought the 460 because we wanted the option of the Sport Mode. We really liked the BMW for handling in tight corners and acceleration. Buying the 460 we felt like we made a compromise. The 350 is a wonderful car, but there is noticable difference in acceleration and road feel between it and the 460 in Sport Mode. They are both great cars and I bet you'll be happy with either. Whatever you do, get the Mark Levison Sound System! :D
  6. If I drive our GS460 in "sport" on the freeway then I usually get around 24mpg. If I keep it out of "sport" and occasionally use the cruise control I can get it up to 29mpg. In town driving is constant stop and go and averages 14 to 18mpg.
  7. We bought our GS460 in November and we love it. We had driven the Infiniti M and G many times as rentals and actually planned to buy the M on the day we drove the GS460. We drove the Infiniti M and then drove an ES and then the GS. Here's why we bought the Lexus GS: ride quality, performance, sound system. The GS has no wind noise that we've noticed. In the "sport" mode the GS reminded us of the BMW550 and was superior to the Infinity. IMHO the sound system in the Lexus (Mark Levinson) is far superior to either the BMW or the Infinity, in part due to the road noise of the Infinity. Lexus Nav system doesn't have a hard drive like the Infinity and has a lock-out feature you can read about in the forums that frustrates all of us, but I can't imagine not having it. We didn't like the idrive on the BMW, but the trunk space on the BMW is better than on the Lexus. The 20-way BMW seats are wonderful, the Infiniti seats were ok but we really like our perforated leather seats. Have fun shopping! :)
  8. I'm also interested to know if the VAIS you mention is what is being provided by Lexus. I can't believe they included the play in motion lockout is part of this! As the passenger I get very frustrated that I can't do anything just because we're moving. Anyway, thanks for the link to Dice. We have an 08 GS460 and it listed as being supported. But there are many of us anxious to hear about your experience. Thanks for keeping us posted.
