  1. 1994 ES300 V6

Problem tends to appear when engine fully warmed up.

The front center cylinder appears to misfire (not fire at all). Misfiring then occurs at idle, under acceleration (most notable due to engine vibration), and at constant speeds.

Once the misfiring occurs, at idle, I have pulled the front center low voltage lead to the coil pack without a change to the engine. Pulling the front driver or front passenger low voltage lead to the coil pack causes the engine to run worse.

I have swapped coil packs and spark plugs. The problem stays with the front center cylinder.

Trying to fix the misfiring issue:

    - Ran one can of BG44K and have a second can in the tank

    - Replaced fuel filter

    - Replaced all spark plugs (iridium tips replaced Bosch platinum)

    - Played with electrical connections to front center cylinder with no apparent effect

NOTE, possibly contributing to the misfire is a failure of the spark plug in front driver cylinder (not current front center problem cylinder). The front driver sparkplug ‘lost’ the ground electrode and started to melt the plug. After replaci

ng all the plugs, the car ran well. Then the misfiring seemed to begin intermittently. I did not pull the head to get to the cylinder, but carefully probed the cylinder for the electrode tip, which I could not find. I suspect it either burned up or was ground down.

Recently did some maintenance to successfully fix an idle problem which appeared to have been a sticky idle throttle plate. I am unsure of the correct name, but for this car a small butterfly throttle plate is located below the main throttle plate and driven by a solenoid.

    - Cleaned MAF

    - Cleaned throttle plate, both large for driving and small solenoid driven one for idle. For smaller idle throttle plate, flooded with carburetor cleaner and blew out with compressed air (several times).

    - Replace air filter

Note, if the injector is bad, one mechanic who has worked on Toyota & Lexus said that replacing one bad injector while keeping 5 old injectors still in the car can cause poor performance because the O2 sensors can’t get one measurement that works for both the new and old injectors.

Any clue on what's going on with this Lexus?

We had a similar problem with our '92. In the end I replaced all the plug wires to solve it. Wires tested ok but would not carry full voltage on occasion.

Have you checked your catalytic converters?

  2. Hello again!

According to the Lexus FAQs I could post a code and he will tell me what it is. All I saw was code 21. So any one knows? Thanks!!!

Ok, I googled and this code means oxygen sensor. It was a different code for the sub 02 sensor. So does this mean the 02 sensor after the manifold?

Sorry, actually it said main 02 sensor so I figure this is the one closest to the radiator ?

  4. Alright fellow lex lovers!!!!

Heres another camry cross referenced part. This is the source of my power steering fluid leak. Its the hydraulic motor assembly that spins your radiator fan. Its part number is 16960-62010. This part on my 94 es300 believed or not was cracked and fluid was leaking out slowly, the dealer wanted $ 433.64 for a new one, I got one from ebay which was pulled from a 93 sc400 and it is a good pull for $ 100.00. Thank you GOD!!! I mean what are the chances of me finding one on line. To replace the old one you have to drain the radiator, disconnect the upper radiator fat hose, disconnect the 2 hoses on top of the hydraulic motor ,remove the fan shroud and the fan as one unit, there are 6 bolts, remove the fan by loosening the bolt on the middle of the fan, and then 3 bolts that hold the hydraulic motor assembly and then installation is the reverse.

By the way, Im not sure its the same way with the 92s or 93s. Hope this will help someone on the forum someday!!

  5. Hello fellow lex owners,

I was doing routine check on the car this morning and I saw a puddle of dark fluid on the driveway, and I started the car and some fluid is leaking from the rear of the radiator fan, in the middle of the fan theres hoses hooked up to it. I do not know which part is this. Is this power steering pump or what?

Please advise and thank you in advance. I really want to keep this 2nd car I use as a daily driver.

    Joe

  6. kinda sucks right now cause i have no way of raising my car and testing as i am at the dorms. Ganna need call them and complain, then go check it somewhere else before i go b*itch at the dealer. If i find out that this happened as a result of thier neglect.

they were supposed to replaced my spring boot as a diagnosis to a sound that was coming from the suspension. i took it there cuase i dont have time right now to work on it my self. they didnt even do that completly... The service guy i know there is a pretty nice guy actually, so hopefully he takes care of my dis-satisfaction on that matter.

Check your cats for a rattling noise and is the car running without power?

  7. The big thing is that lexus vehicles are known to get many miles out of them, but these old ES's have camry engines in them, 1MZ-FE is exactly the same, so milage will vary upon maintenace. Personally, you couldn't GIVE me a car with over 200K on it.

Lexus vehicles hold their value extremely well. My 1994 ES would get $4850 if it got totaled.

Ok, I see. Thanks guys for the input. I think I will be looking for a 1994 es.
