  1. Just looked this matter up at techinfo.toyota.com

The RX350 has a "VSC" pushbutton underneath the dash about where the driver's right knee might rest, between the gas pedal and the brake.

PB is dual function, TC off, then a 3 second press will turn VSC off.

The RX400h apparently does not have this feature.

D'oh!! i wish lexus wasn't so !Removed! when it came to safety. I turnd off htat annnoying seat belt beeping noise, thank god ( i drive around parking lots with my belt off so i can run to the train quckly, dont lecture me on safety)

  2. I don't know about buttons on the 08, but if the 08's are like the prior 06-07's ... yes, you can disable 'em. However, it's not recommended, it can void the warranty, and cause damage to boot, it you over rev while disconected

If there is, in fact, a button (installed at the factory) that can do this, then it's a bit hard for me to believe that the warranty can be voided. My Corvette gives me the option of turning off just traction control (competive driving) or both traction control and active handling. I never turn off active handly, as it is not intrusive at all and can really save my car and me from wiping out at times. However, turning off traction control allows proper launching of the the car if at a dragstrip.

so where is the button? I see a fuel door button, a AFS off switch (for the headlights), mirror adjustment? can someone point it out to me? thanks

  3. There's a switch under the glove box that allows you to change between two sets of tires/wheels/sensors without resetting anything.

    Tom

wow thanks! i just pulled out my owners manual and found exactly what you mentioned!! sweet that just saved me a ton of trouble. did you ever initialize a second set of wheels? it seems there is a button right under the steering wheel that initializes your new set of wheels if you press it and hold for 3 seconds.

on a side note... i scoured the owners manual for a way to turn off trac... is there any way to defeat it at all? maybe pulling a fuse?

  4. Your car was stolen by pros and the money for a rare and valuable hybrid is that it is now in a container where low jack does not work probably going to Africa.

Could you have prevented it , sure dogs, guards , garage.

All can be bypassed if they want , the common theme is to break into your home and take the keys and leave. No problems as they are at the front door waiting.

I have an aftermarket alarm so i added the sensors so i could sleep at night as my car is outside .

The old mercury tilt switches were not accurate so this re calibrates on arming for inclines.

The field sensor listens to the air movements to set off the alarm if glass breaks of and arm moves inside the car by using 2 microphones.

jesus all that just for canada? why would you not invest in a garage and some guard dog/security system? hell you can always have a camera that has motion sensors so you can see if someone is snooping around in your driveway at night.

  5. just a quick question, what did you do about the TPMS? did you use your factory ones or but new one? who initialized them for you? can you switch tire sets or do you have to reprogram the TPMS every time you switch from one set to another?

I just kept the factory setup. As far as I know they don't have to be reset or initialized. I have an appointment on Friday for my 5000 mile service and my speedometer recalibration. I'll ask about the TPMS.

interesting, i was either going to order a set of TPMS sensors from the www.eastcoasttire.com or get ones from a lexus dealer in dallas. ($127) a piece brand new. Since im going to use my stock rims for the winter i would want to invest in another set of TPMS sensors for my new rims. BTW im looking at either the Helo 834(black) or the Devino Flawless in black.. any other input you think I should consider? whats the offset of your wheels by the way? any handling difference on 20's compared to the stock 18s?

  6. We just bought an RX400h last month. We live in the city and drive mainly to/from work. Our first tank had an average of about 18 MPG. I am very careful about trying to utilize the electric motor as much as possible. Still, I found that the 2 times I took the car on the highway, I got much better mileage.

When we asked our dealer about this, they said that it takes a couple thousand miles for the car to "understand how you drive", and that we should see better gas mileage then.

Has anyone ever heard of that before? Has anyone experienced this low of gas mileage? Did we get screwed? Any tips? Thought? Suggestions? Thanks!

i had the same problem, i was averaging around 18-19 mpg with a bunch of cold starts, brand new car, mostly around town miles stop and go in COLD weather. now that its around 55-60 every day and my car has 2500 miles on it, im proud to report I average 25.2 miles per tank on average! I changed my morning commute so its mostly highway (20 mins) and my overall tank is 70% highway / 30% around town. I am very pleased to fill up with 13 gallons and get 330 miles! :) 87 octane helps too, only $3.37 filled up yesterday.. btw I have a 125 extra pounds of stuff in my car... my subwoofer/box combination including my amp and a secondary battery/ relay in the trunk. I also have that 50 pound grill guard on the front of my lexus, which probably owns my C/D ratio lol. I'm going to switch to Toyo Proxes 255/50/18, as soon as I save up some more money. Overall im extremely pleased, as my car is just as fast as a range rover sport supercharged (which gets 12 mpg), smooth on the highway for cruising and looks badass with my tinted tails and grill guard, subwoofer, etc. Love the smoothness of the CVT although i miss the shifting feeling when you JAM on the gas pedal and want to move. ... my writeup after 2500 miles, love this car, wouldn't cash it in for anything else given the chance.

  7. after all that is that still the dealer license plate frame? no plate jewelry for the lexus? my dealer has one that is all black or chrome with just the lexus L logo at the bottom middle, i think it would be a great addition. there are many others online. otherwise your car looks very handsome.

thank you for the suggestion, i recently scoured ebay for "L" or "Lexus" license plate frames in Black and I couldn't find anything. I don't want to bring attention to my license plate lol as the cops won't like that but I could def go for a clean "L" or "Lexus" license plate cover in flat black. Let me know if you find anything.

  8. You might want to consider taking off the roof rack. I really like that I did and it would look even better with your gorgeous all black car. Now with the blacked out tail lights the roof rack looks out of place. You need to continue that minimalist look! In my opinion. Take care and thanks for the pics. Rey in L.A.

thats actually a good idea, however i thought about it for a while and im still attempting to achieve the "macho" look with an SUV, hence the ramming guard and the blacked out tails. My intent is to make the SUV as non-girly as possible.... since the RX is a well-known girls car. I like the way yours looks, very sleek, although I would rather opt for a macho look but thank you for the suggestion rey.

  9. That looks great! I think it really works with black cars though. It looks fabulous. Oh, by the way, what do you put on your tires to make them so nice and shiny. I have tried different products and am kind of happy with the Tire Foam product but it doesn't look as nice as your nor when I get my car back from the dealer and they wash and clean the car. the tires always look much better than what I do myself. What do you use? Rey

thank you rey! i appreciate the compliments very much.

I actually use costco tire foam, just spray and walk away. hehe i know im lazy but i've heard the stuff you apply with an applicator pad lasts longer, to be honest its sloppier and this stuff is extremely simple and effective. I'll check the brand when I get home but I used to use "Mothers" tire foam spray application which did a great job. let me know if you have any questions. i'm in the process of acquiring 255/50/18 Toyo Proxes, can't wait till those suckers get installed

  10. Funny thing is, on our '04 Prius, it came STOCK w/ tinted brake/signal tail lights ~ then next year? '05 and beyond? Boom, they went clear ( You can just barely make it out on my avatar, to the left ). Weird, that if folks prefer the tint, that the factory would go the other way. Beats me.

Personally I would have "baked" the tail light assemblies in an oven long enough so that I could easily remove the outer clear plastic and then painted the non-reflector surfaces black.

I did that with my supra, tons of fun lol. The tails came out perfectly and I can rip this stuff off in the future if I need to, thats the main reason I went down the tinting path

  11. I have pictures in the dark but they look fine to be honest, the only time you can notice they are tinted is during the day when sun light is beaming down on the lights.

The installer noted that the RX tails are extremely bright so you don't have to worry. I love the way my car came out, it looks fantastic driving around all stealthy B) ... if only i could have tinted front windows!

It only cost $120 including return shipping if anyone is wondering, no the cops haven't bothered me yet because the LEDs in the taillights are so strong you can't even tell. What a fabulous mod for only $120, I highly recommend www.jonstintedtails.com

  12. Ok so basically I was sick of the "ricer" lights that came with the RX400h. I needed to distinguish myself from the other RX's somehow since there are a million driving around here. I have lots of insane and random ideas, so bare with me...this one day I just decided to rip out my tail lights and get them shipped out and tinted.

    1. I started by opening the hatch, taking a long flathead screwdriver and prying off the clips that hold the plastic cover on (the hatch is way in the air so this can be quite difficult)

    2. Take off the plastic piece, and start removing the tail lights, make sure to take all 4 screws out, some can be hidden. Also one screw on the outside holding the lights in the hatch screwed in.

I shipped them to www.jonstintedtails.com and he did a fantastic job, no bubbles, looks excellent.

I got the darkest tint available so its tough to see my lights.

    Here is the finished product
